Thanks for the reply. I have heard they are pretty good egg layers but didn't expect her to do that well. Her eggs are quite small at the moment, unfortunately the only cockerel that was worth breeding that was her brother roosted outside one night in winter and didn't come back. I was...

I just really wasn't expecting her to lay so often. I was thinking somewhere around 5 eggs a week. So far she hasn't taken a day off of laying yet, always deposits her egg before 9 am every day. Thanks for the reply by the way.

I have a pullet Black Ameraucana, hatched from BBS line eggs that just started laying eggs. She has laid an egg every day for the past 20 or so days, is this a fluke or normal for this time a of year and her age? I didn't expect that kind of egg production from a pure bred bird particularly...

Looks like you have a pair of Easter Eggers. There are some B/B/S Ameraucana hatching eggs I saw for sale in the buy/sell/trade section of BYC. Unfortunately, most ebay sellers are also selling just Easter Egger eggs labeled as Americauna which is a hint that they are not the actual breed.

Hi Paul, Did you happen to see the rooster? If he possess blue egg genes there likely a 50% chance your little black pullet will lay green eggs, or 100% if he had two copies (one gets passed on, and the trait is dominant). Blue shell with a brown coat over it produces the green color. There...

We had one rooster and a hen that is still that way. At 1.5 years old she still flies over the fence and lands on my arm for pets. Oddly enough she isn't terribly friendly with the other chickens she is on top of the pecking order and no one else is allowed to roost until she lets them...

Those of you with Barred Ameraucana project EEs do you have any pictures of them as chicks? I suspect two of the black chicks i hatched are barred by the white spots on their heads but I don't know. The rooster who is the father I think had barring hiding under dominant white from the white...

Well I think my shipped BBS hatch is over. Out of 12 Ameraucana eggs, 4 arrived broken/cracked and the rest were coated in egg but 6 looked viable into lockdown and 3 hatched. I suspect these are all blacks but I wanted the opinion of those here about not having any blues: The angle makes...

6 Blue Ameraucana eggs looked normal when I put them into lockdown yesterday. Hoping that in 2 more days I will have some pictures to post here of the little Blue Ams.

Well, in about 1.5 weeks i am hoping to be able to finally post pics of my first pure bred BBS Ameraucanas. I ordered 12 eggs shipped, received 4 that were cracked (4th one was noticed after blood ring developed) but 7 out of the 12 are still developing normally for this stage of incubation...

In a way I think she answered your question. Lavender is a project color still correct? Seems like a relatively recent cross which would result in a lot of split beard/muff genes. From what I have read Lav can also have poor feather quality which I imagine would contribute as well.

I appreciate your disclosure. I saw your ad on CL after I PM'd you. Still looking for people in our area selling true bbs Ameraucanas if you happen to know any . Two of my hens went broody DOH! I was noticing that as well on CL. It is frustrating that people will say AMERAUCANA and they...
