Breed, Lay, or get et....yup, that's about it. I have six about ten weeks old or so. I have no idea what sex they are. I don't know how to figure out what a saddle feather looks like. They all have plentiful tail feathers, thick and everywhere so I don't think I'll have any luck sexing them that...

I have six chicks that are a month old. I have never been around this breed but I have one chick that is much larger than the others too. It is the most friendly of them all as well. I can't get over the difference in personalities these chicks display!

I have no problem with being patient and waiting. I have just read so many others that do candle early so I thought it was ok. I like your approach better though.... wait it is.

These are pics of the same egg at day 3. All eggs look fairly much alike and have that dark mass on top that moves around on tilting the egg.

You know, I have heard this before and I don't know why I haven't tried it. Next time I have a couple of healthy mounds I'll give that a shot! I just have to be quick and smart with it to make sure I don't become collateral damage in that war! Thanks! Edit: I have 27 eggs rockin' and warmin'...

I have no idea! I have read on this forum that some people do indeed have fire ant eating chickens. I kick the mound and give it a spray of Cedarcide Best Yet for an instant knockdown and they die and retreat. They really hate the stuff! They usually come back up a few feet away but with a...

I got babies! Well, sort of. No counting of chickens before they hatch. Anyways, I just got 27 eggs from a Buckeye breeder....guess we aren't allowed to name names? Came complete with their lineage. They arrived well packed with plenty of sawdust and bubble wrap. The new Genesis 1588 is...

hahaha, I thought the ice water was a joke at first! Do they like lemon in their sweet tea too? Makes sense though...water just sitting gets really hot. I'll do that for sure!!! I already have plans for an attic fan in the coop. Thanks so much for the suggestions and help...ordering eggs for...

I'm about to order buckeye eggs and being new to the chicken life; I find myself with new questions daily. After extensive research, I settled on the Buckeye. I see everywhere they are cold tolerant but what about heat tolerance? I am "down the hill" from Hendersonville, NC and it can get really...
