Quote: j.luetkemeyer : Eggs received today! I am just wondering if the bad luck with your hatching shipped eggs was in part some of the eggs I shipped to you. The above quote of eggs recieved is the last contact I have had concerning the eggs I shipped. These eggs should have been Christmas...

I have also had really bad luck with shipped eggs and those that hatch are usually cockerals. I'm wanting to begin by own breeding program and have been trying for a year and a half but do to these poor hatch rates I haven't been successful.

I have noticed some people selling buckeyes have strains with combs other than pea combs. Is there a rose comb genetic in the buckeye breed or should I stay away from these breeders? Most of them seem to have lines from names I have seen on this thread but I want to make sure I am getting...

I have also found this to be interesting. I get some very oblong/pointy eggs but not necessarily consistent. I am working on a breeder pen and when it is done I am going to put a trap nest in there to track which hens lay them and if they are consistent. Might be the end of the summer before...

My first buckeye roo did that but it was closer to a year old. He would come up and peck at my shoe. He wasn't real aggressive but he did have a spurt in him.

Has anyone got buckeyes from Ideal Hatchery? If so, do you happen to know what lines they have? I have four hens from them and emailed them about it. They have their own breeding stock on their farm; however, they do not know their origin. These hens seem to have all the characteristics of a...

Quote: Well, I imagine you could try, but since we don't know for sure what breeds Nettie Metcalf used to create them, it might be shooting in the dark. Personally, I feel that there are enough discrete lines out there now that you could set up a number of breeding pens and keep your flock...

I am currently establishing a few different bloodlines of buckeyes so I can begin breeding them and selling them in my local area. I am curious if anyone has tried to establish fresh bloodlines by crossing the original breeds.
