I figure it's high time I shared a photo of my hen! Now that I know for sure she is really a she. There was quite a debate on her this spring while she was growing! She has a massive, tall comb that is so heavy it folded over and has a permanent 90 degree bend in it now! She started laying...

My understanding is that BRs can be sexed by color up to a few days old, but then you have to wait to see if they lay an egg or crow after that. Did you get them as day olds? If you did, did you take pics and know who is who in those pics?

Post the pics over on the Wyandotte thread...I still think the 5 dark ones are your Wyandottes though...I've never seen pics of any that were light colored...
The 5 dark ones (not yellow) all look like my little Wyandottes (I got 2 SLWs), but I'm no expertat picking out chicks either, lol...I am better at telling the RIRs apart from the BR & Wyandottes they had at the feed store than the employee working there though.
Oh, such beautiful birds you all have! I can't wait for my little BR to get her "big girl" feathers in! They'll be 2 weeks old on Monday or Tuesday (I got them from the feed store on delivery day on Wednesday)!
And I must say, thank somebody my blood blister on my finger finally healed! My...
They are such a hoot! I thought I was all prepared for them and then they got here... Lol! I think either the larger of the two SLWs or the BR is going to be the boss lady, they go back and forth on who is going to be the bossiest chick, lol. The BR is so much bigger than the SLWs too...
Oh, finally! A simple, easy to understand page of info! Thanks! I figured I had gotten myself confused with looking at all the different info in the last few months while I waited on the gals to arrive! Now I can sit back and live happily while I wait for eggs, lol.
"Gerty" has the darker...

I can't tell by that picture. Can you get a better picture? Look at her legs, also.
Best pic I have of her...
And I got legs! She's the only one of the three of them that didn't freak out when I tipped her on her back...
This chick is a girl...right? I got her and two SLW chicks from the feed store Wednesday morning. They're from Dunlap Hatchery in Idaho. I think I remember that the BRs are sex-linked, so this "should" be a pullet....but I just can't shake the feeling that I ended up with a "not a pullet"...
