Thanks much. Have you found it makes a difference whether the dog is male or female if they are spayed/neutered? Which dog breed would you pick for a fairly hot climate (Northeast central Texas/OK area) and lowest food cost?

Quote: Our property is fenced with 4-strand cattle type fence. How are they trained to do this? All the dogs we've had would leave the property at times. Thanks

Thanks TK. Great story you posted. I'm not familiar with the New Foundland. I didn't know they would eat vegetables! It does get pretty hot here also if that would be a factor. I will look into them. I did have a Great Pyr mix that didn't work out - turned on my DW and we had to get rid of...

Zootopia: what kind of dogs and how did you "boundary" train them? I'd like to let my chickens free-range so I need a good guard dog (that doesn't eat multiple pounds of dog food a day or chickens). We have lots of predators here, as well as dumped dogs and cats.

The only thing I've been able to get them to eat other than crumbles is spaghetti w/o sauce. I guess it looks like worms :) They ignore bread, crackers, fruit and greens. Age ranges from 4 to 9 weeks. It appears, out of 7 birds I have 2 roosters, a BO and Black Star. The BS is the oldest...

Interesting. The only breed of white that I've found that is based on dominant white is the white leghorn. There are a few breeds of white whose genotypes were not tabled in the literature, so there could be others. One other oddity about the two chicks, was that they were much smaller. It...

After further research and so as not to mislead anyone, I would like to correct my previous post regarding white jersey giants. The true white giants are based on recessive white, not dominant white. (This wouldn't prevent a breeder from "making" dominant white based giants however) This...

LD: the chicks do look like splash. As I understand it the white of JGs is caused by Dominant White . So the simplest explanation, if you are certain they came from white JGs, is that you have a breeder bird or birds which are not pure for white - they only carry a single dose of Dominant...

"They are all huge (at least the ones I have now!!), but the FEMALES are scary big!" Are these hens your new line? When do you think you may have their eggs available?

Well, if he's only 7 mo. there, its hard to imagine how big he must be now at 2-1/2. Way over 13 pounds I bet. He does look a lot like SCs blue roo typewise. Is his size typical for the SQ JGs? It would be fun to have some of these giants walking around the acreage, probably wouldn't have...

Thanks Wynette! Very nice JG you have also! What kind of roo is that behind him, red star Or? Full grown LF? If so your JG roo is one big bird! Any idea of his weight and height? Thanks

Thanks again. I like the blues, blacks and whites best. Don't care much for the splash. I have a black hen now about six weeks old of hatchery stock. She does have a great nature, very calm and will fly up in my hand and rest there. Only handled when I removed her for cage cleaning. My...

Thanks. Wonder what size he'll be fully grown? I intend to get some SQ JG eggs before long and after I get my incubator built.

Hi, anyone know of a show quality Jersey G breeder in Oregon? I have a cousin there looking to acquire some. She and her daughter had show dogs for some time, and now since they have moved to a rural area are interested in raising/showing the giants. Thanks
