Rescued Roo from next door (now known as Larry) (pics on post #30)

Update: Larry is doing good. The neighbor said another roo was picking on him so he took that roo to the feed store so Larry could be better. I think that neighbor is finally getting it!

Strawberry, I think you hit the nail on the head! It fits that he is so fat that the feather skin has stretched so far that non feather skin is covering big areas. He's a year old. Now that the neighbor has 2 less roos, I gave him back in return for the hen with the broken leg. He may have...

He doesn't seem to have any broken skin, I'm still not quite sure why he has these big patches. But it seems that there are new ones I think he's shedding out. Maybe being a year old he has a system failure that isn't helping much at growing feathers back (?)

Strawberryfields, how much do you feed him per day? Mine's getting 2 cups a day right now and I'm not sure if it's right. He's doing fine, except I heard they do develop bare skin patches all over them because their body is bigger than the feather growth can keep up with.

Thanks, Thedoor I'm not a hero. I just have a stupid neighbor and I can't stand suffering. But thanks for the lovely compliment, you must be a wonderful animal lover as well!

Quote: Larry's fine. He went into his little dog house by himself tonight. He crows. He must be getting used to the routine here. I hope I can let him free range one day. He's pretty vocal with his "conversations". I'm hoping he's losing some weight. Thanks for asking, I really need to...

Larry is good. He slept in the dog house with a blanket over it because for Fla, it's cold these nights, near freezing. I think he wants to come out and play with the girls, LOL. I think he's actually limping less, maybe the diet is working. I still hate my neighbors, LOL. Thanks for asking.

Thanks, Jody. He still has a little bit of bleeding on his wing stumps. I guess I'll wait till I don't see the stains anymore.

SunnyChic, LOL, that's not a bad idea. I never thought of it (along with most people!) I can do that. Thanks

I can get a picture. They are clean people, their house is fairly new. The coop is 8 months old, 8 x 12 feet, he covers up the window at night. It has no protection around the bottom from anything digging in. There's a pen. He had the coop built where there's shade (Florida). There's no...

I've been thinking about that too, the rats picking on the chickens. Maybe it is something else. Looks like they all have red bare patches covering their entire undersides, and under their wings. I know "Larry" does have stumps at the ends of his wings, with dried blood on the ends. No bugs...

Rescued Roo from next door (now known as Larry) (pics on post #30)

Thanks. I will talk to the neighbors about it. Then if it doesn't change, call the animal control. With the feed, maybe I'm going to have to measure out how much 16 chickens eat all together and divide that number by 16. Larry is really grossly fat. So I'm thinking he needs the amount that...

Quote: I can't let him eat all day because he's a cornish X, super fat, has leg problems already, and his comb and wattles turn a real dark red sometimes. (red?) He needs to lose some weight. I've been giving him about a cup of food twice a day. Plus an apple or something during the day...

Today I tended to Larry's wounds. I sprayed Blue-Kote on all his raw parts, there were 2 more raw patches under his wings, and something else really gross that I discovered- his winds have been gnawed off. I wondered why his wings were short. I don't know how much has been chewed off, but you...

Thedoors5to1-thanks for all the info and advice, I'm going to contact them and see what guidelines they have. Coretta, I will probably end up keeping him, I don't know if he would survive back there, or if he's going to survive at all, I have him on a diet, but he ran around today, and his...

Rescued Roo from next door (now known as Larry) (pics on post #30)

I've given them this website address several times, lists, advice, dusted their chickens for lice once, saved a life once, etc, for them. I still hate them! Almost 4 years of their stupidity-it's not like they neglect their pets- they are clueless, and Mr. makes like he's listening, but he...

Grace, I won't eat him but I think you're right. Jody, I may have to hold onto him because he can barely walk. I,ve restricted his food, if he goes back he will get to eat all day. ( I knew I shouldn't have named him)

Jody, I wish I was able to but I've already commited myself to another roo I haven't received yet, one that I need. At least when he goes back, he won't have those 2 bullies attacking him. I would not give him back till he will be safe over there. Their coop is twenty feet from my fence. Now...

Thanks, Cyn. I was afraid of that. He's on a diet now, will get feed in the morning and evening, and apples and such to nibble on during the day. But when he goes back, they'll let him eat alot again cause they only have 1 pen. I may not be able to extend his life much, but it will be a...
