I lost 5 chickens last year to a raccoon. It waited outside my automatic door until it opened and then went in and made me sad. They are not my favourite animals. -

Go smaller? You could also use solid siding like pallet wood lower down and hardware cloth higher up to provide light and ventilation. -

1/2" hardware cloth lets all the poop fall through. I'd replace the 1/4" with 1/2" as it's much easier to keep clean than the sand. -

That will definitely work. You need to make sure there's ventilation up high in the coop and no drafts, but you won't need to heat it. Water will be your biggest issue, but you can build a recirculating system that will work at those temps. -
