I'm not the owner to that pic but it looks very much like shelving you'd find at a hardware/home improvement store. Lots of folks who keep finches tend to use that stuff to make large aviaries or flight pens. Far cheaper to make their own, than buying cages built for the job.

Swords, that is a nice idea w/ an outside feeder trough. There's two potential issues I see with it though: 1) The little bits of metal poking down at the gaps. I'd clip them closer & file smoother so they don't scrape the top of their heads. 2) The gaps for their feeding area leave ample room...

It won't crack if you put something soft on the end to buffer it. Add a strip of pink foam, a thin draft stopper (can DIY one), etc.
