Sorry that I haven't answer your question about nest pads sooner. Due to health issues I have given up raising chickens so I rarely am on BYC. The pads you indicated will work perfectly fine as the ramp provides enough downward roll.

I used a table saw to cut the ramp slots close to length and then finished th cut with a saber saw.

Building a front rollout nest box is doable but it would require a lidded egg collection box that would also serve as a perch. Also it would have to be quite deep to accommodate the ramp and clearance for eggs. I'm confident that I could make one but it would require some time and expense that...

A 6 nest box would be more than adequate for your flock. I do not manufacture the nest boxes for sale. The purpose of this thread was DYI so that a rollout box could be made as inexpensively as possible.

As I collected eggs today I again saw the effectiveness of a rollout nest box. All of the eggs were in the tray, none in the nest boxes, and all were clean and unbroken.

Great. I'm glad this thread can provide people with the inspiration to make their own nest boxes. With the reversal of the rollout direction, I would suggest the you put a flat cover over the egg collection area that will keep the eggs clean and serve as a roost

Great drawings. Almost identical to the 2 nest plans I drew.

I wonder how many people have been able to use this thread to build nest boxes. I wish that I had kept an accurate count of the number of people that I have sent the two nest box plans to. I'm pretty sure it's way over 200.

After looking at the updated pictures I would suggest that you first install a 1x2 at the very edge of the box before installing your roof. Just 3/4 of an inch would give you the necessary height to allow your roof to overhang just enough to cover the top of the doors and still allow function.

Since the picture doesn't show how much space is available above the nest box I can only suggest that if there is enough height you could install a simple shed roof.

Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply. In my coop I have the box partially inside to allow the weight to be carried by the wall. The foam bumpers just sit at the back to cushion eggs yet are easily removed for cleaning.
