Bella is a Golden Duckwing - he'll get more yellow and red in as he matures.
Casca, gorgeous girl, is a BBR, but also has something else in her.
She's very similar to my Josephine.
An additional note - Casca is not purebred. I see some beard/muffs in there.

Sorry Don, my bad. I have confused you with Royce. Oh well. Nice chick! How are you so sure it is a cockerel? I can never tell when they are that small.

That's not a chick, it's the ugly duckling! LOL, he is cute and does have a boyish look. Sometimes I have chicks hatch in the bator who's down sticks to the shell and they come out with bald spots. Monkey looks like he's growing quills for real feathers so he shouldn't end up bald...
The last cockerel I hatched from last fall is red. He does grow some pesky tail quils and they are black and his primaries are black. He seems to be a brown red but heavy on the red coloring. Almost looks like a Rhody. Almost... No tufts but he does have a cute small comb. Free for the...
Hi All,
Been sidelined recovering from some painful ortho surgery but have been reading your great posts. I've got some broodies going and am filling the incubator today. Mostly with buff leghorns but there will be some araucanas and some olive egger hopefulls. My broodies are setting on a...
Awe bummer, I had a feeling.... Keep up the good work anyway. I have tons of clean faced girls. I am planning to work on a group picture when I can finally seperate my breeding pens up. Lotta snow has to melt yet.
I'm trying to get my two breeder boys to get along 'better'. Covered their...
Yeah, a lot of dairy barns in VT have caved in this winter, many cows have been lost. A milk goat farmer had her hoop structure cave in on top of all of her goats. She was lucky that all got dug out eventually and were alive. I have 7 foot piles of snow at the moment. It just reflects the...
Yes, not good to let our thread go off page one. Here's why I am not breeding birds yet:
My tractor with loader bucket is under that. We are in the middle of the third snowiest winter on record.
My only Gary bird is a nice blue pullet I bought from Ahappychick. The rest are all out of birds I bought and bred when I started with araucanas so now they are a mix from many breeders.

I will look for the pine tar the next time I go to the grain store. Thanks.
BTW, I just checked your website & see that I could drive & pick up hatching eggs!!! We have relatives that live in Hinesburg that we are overdue in visiting. I'll have to make sure I start planning &...
You can also put some pine tar on the area getting picked. It doesn't taste well to chickens. Look for pine tar in the equine supplies section of your farm store, it is used for hooves.
