Wisher, tried squishing the "eggs" & they really don't squish. They just seem hard. Today there seems to be more. Going to get some sevin & try. I read where u can put the sevin in a garbage bag & put the chicken in the bag with their heads out, is that how you would apply? Also, what about...
That's the weird thing, they aren't in clusters like all the pics I've seen. Was wondering if it might be some type of fungal infection or something. Will try to squeeze & tell you what it feels like.
Thanks!
Does anyone know if these are lice eggs? Just noticed yesterday & they are only around their necks. Inspected all of them & do not see any signs of bugs, mites, etc... Put a lot of DE in the coop. Not sure what the next step is since I'm not sure if lice or not.
Just curious if anyone in south AL (especially Mobile & Baldwin County) has had to use a Vet for your birds? Just wondering if we have a vet nearby that would treat chickens
Help, lost one of our one month olds this am & the barred rocks eye looks like its shrunken & possibly having some discharge from it. Vitamins in the water, put neosporin on barred rock. She's not acting 100%, but still eating & drinking. What can we do?
How loud are y'all's hens? I have a friend who's been telling me they are going to be louder than I think. We live on small in town lot & coop will be near property line. I know they can make a fair amount of noise when laying, but is it going to bother the neighbors?
A question for my experienced chicken keeping friends.....do you use deep litter method in coop or sand? Moving first batch of girls very soon & not sure what to use. Thought I was sold on sand but have been reading about deep litter method & wanted everyone's opinions. Still contemplating poop...
Chicken math struck again, lol! Got 4 new birds today: white frizzle, white silkie, BR & gold laced cochin. Gonna pick up 2 lavender orp's next week & should be done creating our flock!
Brie, what did you get? You could always get sex links, they are guaranteed pullets. We've hand raised our four & hope all are pullets. There's a lady in Baldwin County that's going to sell her lavender Orpingtons if you like them. I'm going to get two, they are already laying!
We scored free pallets from Walgreens to build our coop, built the run out of stuff we already had, except the hardware cloth. Can't wait to get our coop completed so our birds can leave the brooder & move into their new home!
Anyone looking for hatching eggs should look @ MeMe's Poultry & Quail in Robertsdale, Ms. Rose is so sweet & knowledgeable! She has Cochins, Orpingtons, RIR, Polish, silkies, etc..... http://m.facebook.com/MemesPoultryAndQuailSales?id=343193939103025&_rdr
