When you look at shank color, remember you are seeing feathers/follicles, scales, upper or sub dermal. Pink foot pad = white skin. Java should have yellow skin which is why the yellow foot pad is required.
Skin color has their own genes W is dominant white and inhibits yellow carotinoid...
Yes, it was quite a day when we published the Fall newsletter/McGraw Mottled Java project and David simultaneously came forward with his exiting news!
2014 will be a great year for the Mottled Java!
Thanks Bob.
Yes, we are in contact and I forwarded his info to Jim the same day of his introduction/announcement.
He's currently in the process of setting up his breeding pen structures.
This is great news for the Mottled Java indeed !
Oh, I think one was most likely Tacey Perkins of "Yesteryear Poultry and Seed" (without and "R") She's in CA but I don't think she has Mottled Java any longer.
When Java Breeders finishes the updated site, there should be a new "Breeders Listing" section.
Thanks.
Just making sure you know I don't keep Mottled though, I do remember a CA farm with them years ago (wish I could remember the name).
My purpose is to assist Bob as the newsletter states and keep the list for the McGraw/Mottled Java project.
When I speak of "Master Breeder" I speak of individuals who physically come to my farm, work with me at shows and poultry courses. A few of them occasionally visit BYC. Strange, I don't recall stating I was "afraid to have questions asked" in fact quite the opposite.
Thank you.
I've beed breeding the blacks for 5 years and experimenting with genetic projects and new colors since last year. I'm also working on a Java preservation project that should be released in March 2014. I'm lucky enough to have a few master breeders who mentor me and some truly...
Just to be clear, Lyles birds are called "Auburn" because they are a combination of genes working together to create the pattern he wants to produce. The genetic term for this color is referred to as "gold" or s+.
A very dear friend explained it to me this way...
"Silver & gold are...
Thank you Black Panther!
Yes, it was expensive and quite time consuming to order both colors and hatch out hundreds of chicks. From the black and white crossings I would get (if I was lucky) 1 gold out of maybe 50 chicks. The remainder would be ~50/50 black & white.
The recessive whites were "sports" out of the blacks.
The "Auburns" were "sports" out of crossing blacks and whites. They are s+ (gold) and in an un-stabilized form.
Lyle has selected for the pattern he has. Since these are in raw form, one can select for other patterns as well...
