Thanks. I've narrowed my 6 boys down to 2 keepers. One will go live a ways away and one is a backup boy. Nice pullets are next on the list for next spring.
Thank you! I picked the nicest cockerel last year and many of his babies had bright yellow feet. I'll look at his daughters tonight and band the ones with good yellow feet. I'm keeping a son who has nice feet, good comb and medium dark eyes along with a nice broad back.
So order of...
Is it considered more difficult to breed towards a correct comb or a dark eye? My cockerels seem to have one or the other. The combs have a little ruffle on the very rear, and the eyes are medium brown.
Hi all. I got test hatching eggs from Hathor March 2015. This is the cockerel I chose to keep. I call him Bart and he's shown here with one of my Dorking hens. Anyhow, I kept 3 Java hens from the hatch, placed a couple of the others that I'd hatched out. One Java has disappeared, one is...
My baby Javas are 2.5 weeks. They are so active, already flying inside their brooder crate. Sleeping all flopped out around the heat panel! Too funny.
My question, are they able to go outside in the grass and dig around, or do they need to be in the brooder for a longer period of time...
Well, I guess I'll tag the ones I think are boys and see what happens. They're 2.5 weeks old and just as active and robust as they can be. I'm very pleased with these chicks!
I have two gorgeous Dorking cockerels that I tagged as pullets based on the eyeliner. Sheesh. I need some really...
Is there a tell-tale indicator of sex in Java chicks? I've noticed that some of my chicks have white chests and others have gray/ black chests. Other than that, they're pretty uniform.
That's so funny! I have my first Javas, and I'm surprised at how quiet they are. Well, all my other chicks have been Dorkings and mongrels. Lots of verbalizations and whining and moaning. The Javas just seem so happy all the time!
I love that! What breed is your broody? I have 9 out of 10 alive. 6 in the brooder, 3 still in the hatcher resting. These chicks seem more quiet than any others.
