Does anyone know if you can boil/cook the "clear" eggs from an incubator? They didn't develop. I thought about giving them to the chickens instead of letting them go to waste but wasn't sure they'd be safe? I have 17 eggs#!
I've had silkies for a couple of years but only a few ended up being girls. I'm so excited that I finally have a broody silkie! It's my Cinnamuffin and she won't budge from that nesting box.
I put about 6 eggs under her, but not sure if they are fertile. I haven't seen Leo Pierre (my silkie...
Those hen saddles (or aprons) are SO cute! I really need to get one for one of my silkie girls. She is the rooster's favorite and her feathers are thinning out on her back.
What a GREAT idea, thanks. I just threw away one of those Costco containers but I guess that gives us another excuse to pick up some more desserts-LOL!
By the way, who has a good idea of storing food at night? Currently I pack everything into a bucket with lid to keep rodents out, but it...
Good Morning,
I have not had a chance to post on here lately, but I do try to read several pages each day to get a little dose of silkie cuteness and info. Our family will be adopting my little cousin from Arizona (any day now) and when we get home I plan to fill the incubator with silkie eggs...
My whites seem to start out more yellow or creamy. The "splash" start out more white/greyish..........and in a few weeks you will see shadows of darker feathers come in. As they get older the "splashes" get darker and there will be more of them.
You did scare me.............but when I looked it up, it doesn't look anything like what my chick has (at least I hope.) Both of Hazey Daisy's feet and legs have feeling and movement in them and she does walk around/eat/drink well. Her eyes are clear and normal. I'm guessing it is more in the...
Aww, I didn't realize Icelyn was a house chicken. What is wrong with her? She is such a pretty girl. And, I think I will try to tape her legs straight again
You two aren't making this decision easy! I really do want to keep her, but not knowing if she is in pain is what bothers me (more...
Hi All,
I need some advice (or personal experience) about a situation. Last month many of you guys helped me recover a little chick with wry neck. She did recover from that, but now seems to have a type of straddle leg -only worse. (She is almost 3 months old and didn't have straddle leg as a...
Hi Everyone,
Finally an update on my wryneck chick. I honestly didn't think I would ever be able to post this, but she actually stayed "untwisted" all morning today! Yesterday was the first time she could take some bites of food without her neck twisting upside down in between bites. And...
You were right about the egg yolk....Wow, she gobbled it right up! Even trying to eat pieces that were twice as big as her beak. It was funny and re-assuring to see her eat like that and fill up her crop. I was also able to buy the Poly-Vi-Sol by returning some items to the store. (My...
I think you are probably right about hert being dehydrated. I've watered the feed down to more of a soup consistency and will administer more frequently. When I try to give her liquid with the dropper she just shakes her head and goes into a twisting seizure. If I try to dip her beak she does...
Just an update on my little, wry neck silkie:
She has not shown any improvement, unfortunately. She is kept by herself in a pet carrier with a towel over it. She sleeps mostly and sometimes rolls around disoriented. This is the 3rd day that I've been giving her extra vitamins to her food...
Thank you very much for the link. It is very encouraging to see that wry neck is reversible and my chick can get better. I'm pretty sure this one is a pullet, so I really want to see her pull through.
Thank you both so much. I put the other 3 chicks outside in their tractor. Then I made a solution of electrolytes w/ vitamins, Vit E, selinium and B12 (my good Standard Process supplements). I may add a bit of prednisone when I find a safe amount. She couldn't figure out how to drink or...
