I’m still sticking with that the one you have on the bottom picture (blondie) is definitely a gold not a partridge. It’s classed as an impure gold due to it having darker wings and tail feathers.
It is achieved by breeding a gold to a partridge usually. However, it is still a gold Silkie just...
I’m happy to help :) I say it’s not full Silkie due to the fact that it’s a NN (naked neck) Silkie. Having the NN means that it’s past generations have been cross bred to Naked Necks to produce a bird that has the naked neck. Hence why naked neck Silkies are not full Silkie.
It may be too soon...
The top one isn’t a full Silkie it looks to be a NN Silkie with smooth feathering. As for the colour on that one I can’t say for sure yet. I could only guess as it’s some type of partridge but I’ve never had smooth feathered partridge colours before.
As for the bottom one, it does appear to be...
Some people will say you can wing sex them but most of the time that's because they're impure.
Chicks have to have a fast and a slow feathering parent I believe to be able to be wing sexed and silkies don't usually have that.
Personally it's never worked with mine as their wings grow all...
Good luck with the hatch! :celebrate
Unfortunately no you can't sex them at that age. There is vent sexing but I'm not going to advise on that. Pretty much if you know how to do it correctly and you are experienced then it's usually accurate, if you've no experience with it, it can be dangerous...
Likewise, no chicks from that rooster have had blue under their eyes either!
I have recently been in contact with Sigrid who writes the chicken colours/genetics books and I thought I'd ask her about it. She said she had never seen where the earlobe colour extends to other parts of the body but...
Going to ask this here too!
Does anyone else's Silkies have blue under their eyes?
It's as if my boy is wearing blue eyeliner :gig
I'm curious to know the genetics behind this as the blue under his eyes is different to that on his earlobes.
Aw poor chick, I'm glad she's still a fighter though! When they're both older you'll have to post more photos of them here :love
From my latest hatch, I decided to keep this little one as a growout. Called it Twinkie :lau
So, if anyone is ever looking for Silkie bathing/cleaning advice, I've just finished my article on how I prepare mine for a show!
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/bathing-silkies-how-to-keep-them-bright-fluffy.75262/
I'm looking for some help!
I've been asked quite often how I get my white silkies so white so I was going to make a bathing article about it.
I guess that would go into the managing your flock section.
My question Is how do I add the main article image? I know how to add images onto the...
I believe that is still classed as a walnut comb but it's not the best example of one. A walnut comb should be more smooth looking with little 'wrinkles' in it and more round in shape rather than long. Like a big cushion! There shouldn't be no lumps or nodules sticking up out of it. It should...
By any chance did this start around the same time that her crest feathers started growing?
My chicks are 5 weeks old now and the ones with the biggest crests are doing quick shakes/twitches of their heads. It's a couple of times a minute when I have them out of their brooder.
Mine don't have...
All together I hatched 17 chicks from my Silkies, colours are white and partridge and there is 3 different ages.
The oldest are almost 4 weeks old.
I have people already interested in the whites and of course, I was wanting to keep 2 whites myself. I'm not wanting to keep partridge.
Since...
