How many toes and what color skin? If it has five toes and dark skin it's a Sizzle, but I am also leaning towards Sultan from what I can see in the photo.

That is normal coloration for a blue chick. The same way black chicks of many breeds have a "penguin" coloration to them at first.

    Absolutely agree. Especially with Silkies.

SOP question: I'm currently choosing between two cockerels for breeding my Cuckoo line. I plan on keeping both to maturity to make an informed choice, but nonetheless would like to start determining their good/bad characteristics as soon as I can. Could anyone post pictures of a good quality...

Beauty is gorgeous, but are those Cuckoos I see in the periphery of those pics?

I have used heating pads, and they can work although they are not my favorite. Look up heating pad caves. That is a more ideal design.

Oh, that lighting is much better, thank you. Yeah, with this angle in inclined to agree. If they're pets and you're willing to feed them despite the fact that they don't lay eggs, you could build them a bachelor pad. Roosters can get along quite well, especially when given plenty of space and...

1 has a larger comb, pretty visible streamers. The second one has a significantly smaller comb and wattle, I see what could be streamers but the comb and wattles are so small it's basically a toss up with a slight lean toward cockerel. Now of course these are Silkies so... at this age it's still...

Looks like Blue with silver leakage to me - I would guess he came from a mixed color pairing. Both are looking like pullets at the moment. How old? 1 and 2 are looking like cockerels, 3 is iffy, 4 and 5 look like pullets so far. A straight up cross of Naked Neck and Silkie is a mixed breed...

Her type is halfway decent, however her color is pretty poor. She has quite a lot of black leakage in her wings and tail, whereas a good quality Buff should be a pure blonde color over the entire bird. Her crest is not so large or round as it should be. She should have more of a cushion (though...

Marek's is probably one of the most contagious common diseases of chickens. Hence the fact it's present in as many as 95% of backyard flocks in some locales. It generally spreads on feather dander and in bodily fluids. If one bird in the flock comes down with symptoms, the rest of the flock has...

How do you know it's a cockerel? DNA tests? Looks quite feminine to me.

I'm seeing a cockerel as well.

That Breda is a gorgeous bird. Might I ask if you got her from a hatchery or a breeder? I've never properly looked into the breed before - I've heard of them, but I don't think I've ever seen one outside of photos, either. I have to think they're quite rare.

X2. Silkies mixed with large fowl is asking for trouble, a single Silkie in a flock of large fowl is begging for it.

I would strongly recommend against housing them with your standards. Even mixing Silkies with certain other breeds of bantams can have adverse results. Silkies are fragile and frilly things and do best completely on their own, or at the most with other equally fragile and frilly things such as...
