Thank you for your help, Fancychooklady! My silkie pullet has recovered from wry neck and coccidiosis. Unfortunately, my serama pullet was not so lucky and died from cocci : (.
Thanks so much for the help. I pmed Seminolewind and am awaiting a reply.
I will be treating the rest of the flock with Corid, and hopefully I'll be able to get di methox fast.
Thank you. It says for broilers and replacement chickens. Does this mean I will not be able to consume her eggs?
EDIT: It's not available for purchase.
Hi,
My silkie chick that recently recovered wry neck has developed another problem. She's extremely lethargic and weak, and she isn't digesting her food. Her crop has been full for a day now, but she's still pooping. It looks really weird and gross. Occasionally it'll be bloody, it's almost...
I have a 10 week old silkie that has recently recovered from wry neck. Today, she's more sluggish than usual, and her stool appears to be bloody. For a normal chick, I'd start her on corid immediately, which I keep in case of emergency. Should I treat, or could it make her sick?
Thank you.
Bess is doing worse today. She will barely eat, keeps tucking her head in. We started her on 0.5 mgs of prednisone because we're fairly sure one of the seramas landed on her. Not sure if she'll make it.
It sounds like you're doing just what I'm doing! Also sounds like the same symptoms. I hope your silkie gets better!
Definitely no corn in her diet. I also don't give them medicated feed. I'll read the page you sent. Thank you!
Bess has shown no improvement, but she hasn't gotten worse...
My black silkie developed wry neck yesterday, probably injured by one of the Seramas. Her condition isn't great (Her head has to be constantly supported or she'll tuck her head in and do backflips). She's on selenium, vitamin E, and vitamin b complex. Not sure if she'll get better or not. Any...
Dang. It's so interesting, because this bird shows no signs of a cockerel. It is super passive, at the bottom of the pecking order, and constantly under the protection of my polish cockerel, who doesn't care for anyone else.
Also, sorry to hear about your photo theft incident! I'd probably be...
Hoping for a girl on this one, considering I already had to rehome 3 cockerels. Here's a close up (very skittish, doesn't like to be held at all)
Far away pic with it's BFF
It is a cuckoo silkie, 12 weeks.
Thanks!
Way way way way way way WAY too young to tell. Silkies are incredibly difficult to sex, most of the time. As of now, there are no early cockerel signs (large, mulberry colored comb, small swept back crest). Way too young to tell, though.
Very cute!
P.S.
Here is a thread I found full of...
Is it a roo sign if my Cuckoo Silkie has reddish (kind of salmon colored) in the comb and wattles at 11 weeks? It acts so much like a pullet. I would be shocked if it was a cockerel after all.
Oh, thanks! We used to own a cockerel that would jump and skip around aggressively. It was so hilarious! We had to rehome him, but I thought I would google "jumping chicken" and see what I would get. So now this is my avatar!
