Well I bought a few silkies so that I will have a good hen to go broody in the spring, Only I don't free range much. But I do have a couple muscovy ducks that are excellent mothers and right now I have a black sex-link that is broody... I didn't think they went broody but she keeps...
How vocal are silkie roos? mine are almost 3 months now and I was just wondering when they start crowing, thats if I even have any males. When should they start crowing and how loud and how often do they crow? I know its probably been answered 100 times already but I thought i'd ask again...
What kind of soap to you wash your silkies with? I gave my 3 a bath today because there leg and foot feathers get filthy... but it was more of a warm rinse off because I didn't use soap as I wasn't sure what to use... oh and am I supposed to dry them or just let them air dry?

or i have red silkies that are 8.5 weeks old and im sure 1 of mine is a rooster becuase its bigger then the rest but also i can see the comb coming in on the top of his head an the rest i cant see a comb
One of mine is smaller then the other 2 but I can't tell with...
Does anybody have a picture of a 6-8 week old silkie hen so I can compare mine to it to see if its similar because I can sell a rooster if I have a rooster...and I don't want a rooster as I'm not allowed to have them in this city... or what can I look for at that age? or is there no way to tell...
ok thats good to know as I started to pick them up and pet them and play with them but as soon as I put one down it runs to the others and huddle together... I only have 3 should I play with them all at once or is there such thing as a chicken being jealous?
I am new to raising chickens and I just recently purchased some silkie chicks(now about 7 weeks old) is it too late to start handling them constantly to gain their trust or what? whats the best way to gain their trust?
