Thank you. It's heartbreaking to lose so many at once. You go for YEARS without issue, then surprise, critter attack. My dog is making it rethink it's meal plans. I saw it through the brush yesterday morning and sent her after it.

It's been a while..............Howdy everyone! Thought I'd pop in for a hello. Courtesy of a predator on Monday, I'm down to 1 Icelandic hen. I also lost most of my Barnevelders. 13 birds taken out at once, so awful. I've done some reading and I believe it was a fox, as it had to climb a 6...

You would have the same issues with ANY breed of chicken. They will wander, and if there is an opportunity, yes, they will visit your neighbor. The only way to keep chickens in your yard is with a fence. And no chicken will be wise to a road.

If that is a little snow, I'd hate to see a lot of snow! We need snow here in CA but we havent been that lucky.

If it's that constant, it will become normal to them. I don't think it will stress them over the long term.

Sounds awful. I hate driving in snow, but we're in the mountains, so you slide. Flat and snow, and I'm good. Ice = BAD.

No kidding! So beautiful. Did you move to Canada recently? Holy smokes, that is cold. I'd die I'm sure, being a CA native. I like Trouble, she has spunk. Of course it helps that you have to deal with her. (and not me) At least she wasn't taking off in the car. I guess none of you...

    Icelandic Chickens

Hi Mary! They are not tailless, no. However, that doesn't mean that yours doesn't have a deformity, causing it to be tailless. I just wouldn't breed it.

They look like twins. This is definitely the key. Gotta build coops, pay someone to clean them regularly and buy LOTS of feed! Well said! I completely agree.
