Congrats on your new chicks! I bought 49 chicks from Luanne for myself and a friend 19 weeks ago. Picked them up in person. Can attest to the fact that her breeding stock is healthy and well cared for. After rehoming or butchering the roosters, I have 19 healthy hens. 2 blue copper marans, 3...

I support NPIP testing. We should make sure people know that they do not test for respiratory diseases when they test on an annual basis. Jennifer Glover from NPIP told me once you see a sick bird in the flock, they have all been exposed regardless of if sick bird is removed. I'm not trying to...

Contaminated my whole flock. I read CMOM doesn't take chickens back to her flock after a swap, she donates them to a...

I am so very sorry for your loss too. I know its sickening and heartbreaking. What kind of pen did you have? Was it chicken wire or hard cloth wire? Did it have a top? Did they dig under? Just want to know to try and help others prevent an attack like this from happening. Again, my condolences.

Excellent post Nikkers. We are in central Florida and have bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, bears, hawks and stray dogs on our 7 acres. We had to give up the dream of free ranging after losing two flocks to predators. My 9 year old said its like the Hunger Games here. In our version, Katness and...
