I was able to rehome my Blue Orpington and my Speckled Sussex roosters. 1 left for sale, $20, Swedish Flower, hatched 11/1/2012, vaxed for Marek's. PM me if you are interested.
Happy Tuesday Arizona BYCers. I am thinning out roos. I have a Speckled Sussex hatched 9/2012 from The Garry Farm (Bargain on BYC), and from Just Struttin Farm, a Blue Orpington and a Swedish Flower, hatched 11/2012. These were hatched by my hens and are vaxed for Marek's by me at a day old...
What are planting? I'm still trying to figure out my garden, I haven't had the best luck and I think it's because I'm planting the wrong things at the wrong time of the year.
This is the Padilla's. Pam and her son Cody. Cody shows at the fair and other shows. I've gotten Ameraucanas from them. One turned out to be a rooster and she let me exchange. I have dealt with them twice and been pleased with the chickens I've gotten. They seemed like nice folks to me.
This is the one that layed the egg in the picture, she is black with a lot of copper around her neck. She is bearded like an Americauna or EE and has feathered feet like a Marans. Her shape is like an Americauna or EE.
Mahonri, The olive egger I got from you layed her first egg today. It's just as olive as can be, hard to capture in a picture. I wanted to show you and say thanks!
I'm not here much, and this visit I'm here to whine, I'm giving you all fair warning.
I have lost 2 hens to this heat. And that's with A/C in both coops. After losing one of my BCMs today, I caught every one of my chickens and closed them inside their coops. Cleared out both waterers of the...
Hi all! Excited I got an olive egger pullet today AND got to meet Mahonri. Had no idea that's where we were going to get her from LOL! What a nice man and was such a pleasant surprise to meet another of our Arizona chicken folks in person.
My rainbow is getting more colorful! Can't wait for...
Love it! I actually brought the idea up to my husband last night. He kinda looked at me with a concerned look on his face, as if to say "Honey, are you having a stroke?" I actually am playing with the idea. We have the space.
Thank you for adding your perspective about raising chickens in the extreme heat of our desert. Last summer, I did every, single suggestion, many you mentioned in your post, and still lost 5 of my small flock. One of my heat victims I was able to save, and nursed her back to health from heat...
Those of you who have chicks out there now, hatched by broody hens, do you think it's too hot to keep them out in the coop? We have portable a/c units out there, but they are only bringing the temps inside the coop down to 90-95 degrees.
Good Morning
I need a vet that knows chickens. Our rooster needs to be seen. He is not completing a crow, is making a kind of twisting motion with his neck, is sort of stuffy sounding. He is behaving normally other than that, just as active, eating fine, etc.
This isn't something I want...
