Quote: Cute! Do you know how old they are? The two bigger boys look like they may be a little older based on comb and wattle development, so I'm thinking 4 boys and 2 girls. D&S, that's a nice looking black rooster. The two I got from you are very much like it. I intend to breed...

Quote: Since your here, The blacks I have from you are huge and round. Should I breed them back to the lavenders to work for the same size factor? The Lavs are nice of course but the blacks are really big. I'll try to get pics. Rancher

What's not to like about orpingtons of any color? The are big fluffy balls of feathers. People like to see them. They do lay nice sized eggs too.

I've posted some of these on the SDWD posting but here are a few of the lavs. Of the five chicks I got from Hinkjc four were pullets. Would to God I was that fortunate in all my dealings.

Quote: I'm guessing 1 and 5 are roos. Now I have to ask. How are they laying? How are their weights? I've got two blacks from Jody and they are very nice. I also have a couple of whites from her too that are nicer than her lavenders. I've got to post some pics I know. Perhaps tomorrow...

Now I've got two nice black roos and a lav roo. But the blacks are nicer looking than the lavender. How many times will it take to get better looking lavenders if I breed the blacks to the lav hens? I've no black hens by the way. I'm considering getting rid of the lav roo and just keeping one...

I hate these stupid birds, can't believe I was so stupid to buy them. Every time you got near them they freak. I want to wring every one of their necks! I sneeze and they go crazy. If I had known how nasty they were I wouldn't have bought them, in fact you wouldn't have been able to give them...

Well it could be not enough handling but we shall see. I hope they aren't excitable. My new bunch of Del pullets are very nice. I can pick them up. Course no chicken likes quick moves.

Quote: My son won't go near our Lavender rooster unless he's carrying something to use as a shield. Come to think of it, our lav Ameraucana rooster is crazy too, but not quite as aggressive. Elton attacked my boots yesterday... guess he doesn't like leopard print! My lav rooster is totally...

This is my first with Lavender orpingtons. Are these guys more hyper than the other colors. I've got white, black , buff, blue, and now these but these lavenders seem very hyper and not friendly. What gives? Rancher

I am sorry I should have been clearer. The blacks that I have from you are all black and would be fine to cross with the one blue I have from Claudia ? Again provided they are not all the same sex of course.

I just threw the blue AL to the Blk PA cuz hinkjc was on and thought perhaps the blacks would be affected as I have Lavs from her too. Now the new issue of Backyard Poultry has an article on breeding. This is one of things it says. "The old adage, which is generally true, the hen sets...

Quote: What does this mean? I was going to read all the postings again but don't have the time. If I breed my one blue from Alabama to the black I got from hinkjc, will that be a problem? Provided they are not all the same sex of course. All chicks are doing well by the way, but...

Quote: Kathy, They are lovely. I wonder though about the breeding issues. It seems a lot of folks are having trouble with consistent fertility in the english orps. Here is the latest hatch. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/21675_32511hatch_and_chicks_001.jpg The Lavenders...

I only brought it up cuz the PP mag mentioned it. Certainly i want nice looking birds, but just wondered with all the breeding and trying to develop to the standard if anyone was keeping track of the the important things like eggs and meat. I think the heritage breeds were developed for the...

Quote: You're a nut! I thought the white coats took you to the hospital. How did you get out already? Correct, lavender is not yet an accepted color. Blue is an accepted color. You better hope I stay out so we can trade Del eggs for Lave orps. If your nice I only send you the eggs of the...
