    loubapache, The timbers are actually 4 x 6, with the 4" side flat and the 6" side rounded. The reason I used them was that they were $1.97 at home depot. I hate shopping there, but for that price I couldn't pass it up. Hope this helps! The actual name for them is "Cherry Tones"
