Insanity, I agree. I have been around chickens and raising chickens for a long time, and even though I treat them all the same way while raising them some are more aggressive and will not learn. Those I do not keep, as their children are more aggressive both to people and to other birds. I...

Girl so far, I have one very similar. Crested ones are harder to tell - and will take longer to mature. Another boy. Too red.

First boy is not SFH - GFF messed up and sent you the wrong eggs. SFH are NEVER barred - and that one is. Check their other breeds - it looks familiar - but it is not a SHF. Edited to add guess - Crested Creme Legbar? Second bird is boy too - too red for a girl.

I sincerely hope there is NOT a next time, but if everybody can be aware of this if it happens to them, and have the birds tested perhaps we can understand what is going on - and figure out something to do to stop it... I don't recall it was seasonal related, which is why it struck me as odd...

Thank you for replying. I am sorry you lost him like that and I am very sorry if my question about testing upset you. I just think it odd that I keep hearing of SFH boys dying suddenly while still young of no known cause. If any of my boys or girls do that I am going to have them tested...

You are not the first one I have heard of having their rooster die suddenly, are you going to have him tested to see what happened? How old was he?

Well... you might have noticed there was still some confusion on a 5-6 MONTH old bird - so no, they are not early sexing...

I think its a cute chick.. what were you asking? Its way to young to even guess what its sex will be - and those feathers are going to change a lot before it gets to its final feathering. I think what she means is with that red of a face they should be laying. And at 5 months - they are not...

The multi is definitely a girl. The gray - probably a girl - but those crested ones can be sneaky. I would still guess girl on the gray... All my gray boys (and that was all of them, drat) had pretty orange and red feathers by that age - and way before that...

I agree, my favorite of the bunch was number 2 and number 4, but I would want to know what was going on with his curly feathers.

I had one SFH boy hatch that had a "sideways" toe. I had one chick that I bought that grew up to have all his toes "sideways" - he was an AM. Curly (the SHF) is growing along with everybody else (its an outside toe, not the inner one and it now points almost straight back like a V). He has no...

My experience has been that they lay a small to medium egg, if not every day then every other day. I have one girl who lays a medium egg and she is a good size too - the other is smaller and lays a smaller egg. The boy is very nice, and he is about the same size as my EE boys, but not as large...

There are a few people in Nor Cal with SFH - but I am not hatching anything out right now. I do have two SHF juvie boys if you want a Blue Crested boy. The other one I know with SFH, I think he is done hatching for the season too. His name is Papabrooder and he has his eggs for sale in his...
