I have two free roo's in Oregon if anyone wants them. They were born in December and came from Greenfire. Both are Red Mille fleur-one is blue patterned and one is splash patterned. Nice comb and legs on both. Local pickup only.

I've hatched out 7 of my own chicks now and just realized what was different about them-the toes aren't the same as the Swedish chicks I hatched a few months ago (from a couple different breeders). They are normal length rather then long. Do you think I just had my humidity set too high...

If the Swedish are actually breeding against the trait (chickens with 2 crested genes) I suspect it is because a chicken with a extra large crest is not a bird you'd expect to live long free-ranging. The Swedish people seem very practical and have created a practical bird-good layer who blends...

I think they only band them when they are sending more then one line. My first order contained 2 lines and one was banded. My 2nd and third shipment were not banded but they told me what line they were from.

Yes they would. 1 gene for crested gives you the small crest. 2 genes big crest. I personally like the small crest and want the breed to stay practical. A large crest can decrease their ability to free range successfully. I've also found chickens with big crests tend to get picked on in a...

As far as I know you just get a crest that is bigger then the breed is supposed to have. The benefit of a chicken like that is you could breed them to uncrested and get 100% crested offspring. I was thinking of breeding a few chicks with 2 genes for crested on purpose.

You will not get better then 50% crested unless someone is doing crested x crested breeding which I do not think Greenfire would do. You can request a line but I don't think you can tell if they are crested that young. I can't tell until they are a couple weeks old.

My "pink" banded was 4 uncrested, my no-bands had 4 crested and 6 not crested, my purple bands are just old enough to start showing crests and its looking like roughly 50%. My first baby out of our own eggs hatched this morning! I've 14 hens of laying age and it seems like the floodgates of...

I do have crested cockerals in this color, I will get some pics if it ever stops raining. In the meantime, here's the same color in a crested female, about 24 weeks old.

I just looked at my hen again, she's a blue pied/mottled with color leakage. I am typing on my phone, so giving the link would be difficult. I can do it later when I can get on my computer. In the meantime, Google chicken color calculator and it will pop up. I put in the black pattern gold...

Oh! My original pairing was millefleur x blue. I just realized I've a hen that doesn't fit into this but she also wouldn't look Swedish at all if it wasn't for her crest. I think she's a solid blue with color leakage, ill have to go back and look but it seems like that would be a possibility.

I was just playing on the chicken color calculator with what I'm seeing in my swedish flock. Has anyone else done this? I'm wondering if what I figured out the colors to be is correct. Black patterned Gold or Red Millefleur Blue patterned Gold or Red Millefleur Splash patterned Gold or Red...

I just finally did a head count. Out of 26 SFH, I got 10 boys and 16 girls! I do have one white based but colorful chicken in my younger group that I'm confused on, but I am thinking its a girl as she's got no color in her comb and it hasn't grown.
