    chicken cannibalism

LOL...that is ok for getting off subject They are doing good. Everyone has seemed to settle down and nobody is pecking on anyone. I never realized how much they can "mow" grass. The little area where we set up the temporary pen had really tall grass and weeds and now it looks like we mowed...

I agree. I would rather go through a tornado than any of the others.

    chicken cannibalism

Well we missed all of the action but some towns west of us were damaged. Tulia, Hereford, Cactus, and Olton were all hit by tornados. They sounded the siren last night and we all headed for the cellar. Did not have time to grab chickens just the 5 dogs. With tornados starting this early it...

    chicken cannibalism

I am glad as well. Fixing to have to put them inside as we are under a tornado watch and suppose to have very severe storms. If it gets too severe the husband won't be too happy helping me get the chickens down into the cellar.

    chicken cannibalism

Thanks for all the help. Things have seemed to settle down. I put the injured birds back in with everyone else and they seem to be leaving them alone. The agressive ones seem to change every day from the speckled ones to the black ones with gold and then some of the others. I thought that...

    chicken cannibalism

I went ahead and moved them in. We are expecting thunderstorms and there is no way for me to run a heat lamp out there so I put them in some dog kennel cages in the garage.

    chicken cannibalism

It is just the joint. The foot is fine. It eats and acts just like the other birds. Is upper 40's too cold to leave them outside?

    chicken cannibalism

Thanks...that is more information than I have at the moment. The guy at the feed store just told us they were brown egg layers some with feathers on their feet and some without. Real informative!! Things seem to be settling down. I have 5 isolated and they are looking better....not so...

    chicken cannibalism

thanks for all of the info. We will try different things and see what happens. I am going to let the ones heal and then try putting them back in with the rest and taking out the speckled. Anyone know what kind of chickens we have by the pictures I posted?

    chicken cannibalism

We have a outdoor pen built right now until we can afford the bird wire for a better pen. We are using some old dog houses for a cover right now so they can get out of the sun but will soon build them something better. How do you entertain them? We plan for them to stay mostly in a caged...

    chicken cannibalism

it seems to be all of the speckled ones attacking and some of the others. There are times it is hard to tell. This all just seemed to come on within the last couple of days. I have three hurt ones isolated together.

    chicken cannibalism

I am really not sure. We got them from the feed store 3 days after easter weekend. They all pretty much have their feathers with just a little bit of down instead of all down. I will try to load some pictures of them.

    chicken cannibalism

Hello I am new and am sure that you have probably answered this many times. We have 30 chicks (brown egg layers) and they have started pecking each other. We move them outside during the day and inside at night. When can they stay outside all the time? What can we do to keep them from...
