Big Beauty & her sister (BB) both got a blue ribbons at the fair. I was hoping for class champ, but I guess there's next year. The biggest surprise was that all 5 bantams we entered won class champs and were competing against each other. Our silkie (a past grand champ) took reserve and our...
Does anyone here show their orps? Do hens with leg spurs get disqualified?
Our son is bringing a gorgeous black orp hen to the 4H County Fair. Last year she won class champ as a pullet and then went on to Grand Champion out of all the chickens - even beat our blue orp cockerel!
This year...
Here was one of my favorite boys. He was such a gentle rooster to both people and hens. Always watchful and quickly put young cockerels in their place.
She’s cute! My bantam Cookie was like that. She didn’t look as petite as other bantams because of all the fluff. However she weighed less than she appeared.
The English Orps are pretty big. It depends also on the line. My lavender blacks and Blue hens are 9-10 lbs but some of the Silver laced...
Still here. Just been busy with chick season. This year I’ve been incubating for other people.
I will admit I’ve gone over to the dark side. As some may remember there’s a humorous rivalry between Cochins and Orpingtons. Which breed is the best? I’m definitely an Orp person, but after losing...
So this is not truly orp-related.... other than we brought one along.... but seasonal fun.
We set up a display at the school's annual "Trunk or Treat" .... chicken themed with a couple live hens of course.
#2 the blue/mauve = Hatched June 4th, 2 mo old (I'm leaning toward female but not so confident) Excuse the little drop. There's a reason I always use an old towel.
Looking for cute names for a lav orp girl. (I've had a Cuddles, Sweetheart, Precious, & Muppet in the past. Also had Chaos, Calamity, Curious.)
Twinkles is a decent name choice so far.
Guess who won Best in Show for large fowl chickens?????
Yup!
Chaos got a blue, class champ for large fowl hen, and grand champion. :lau
Big Blue won blue ribbon and class champion for large fowl cockerels.
Our silkie got a blue, class champ for feather legged bantam hen, and grand champion...
Thanks. Her name is Chaos - a huge 10lb hen. Pretty but not the usual friendly pet orpington. She hates to be picked up. She moved to a friend's house. I will miss the eye candy - but not her squawks when we dared pet her. Never had an antisocial hen like that before, but perfectly named.
Due to AI, our 4-H kids had a virtual chicken show this year. Here are the birds DS showed in his videos
Sadly we couldn't get a good photo of my fav roo. Big Blue only wanted to jump off the box and getting DS back into a button down shirt for a photo was an even a bigger challenge. Had...
Any gender guesses?
almost 9 weeks old
I've been saying male since hatch. (Stumpy wings that 1st week and slower feather growth) Color of face looks red and there are little wattles
BUT there's almost no comb height and the wattles haven't grown any in the past 4 weeks. He's pretty small in...
I'll share what's going on here:

I'm getting feedback sound, so you may need to mute. I hope it's just my computer. DS is out so it's his problem to fix. (This is part of his 4H project)

Yes! There are 5. They are simply adorable.
The 1st 4 are strong and healthy. Already drinking from water nipples & eating -as all orps like to do. The 5th one is still in incubator. That one sort of stalled last night during zipping. I assisted this morning. :fl
