At 4 months they wouldn't have much meat. If you do butcher, cooking them in soup or canning would be a better option.

We have done dun x dun a few times in the past. I too love khaki but for some reason they don't seem as vigorous as dun or black. Plus it is just easier to keep black males and colored females so we don't have to worry about platinums.

The duns will never breed true, just because the dun gene works just like blue. They breed true to type and everything else but when you breed 2 duns together you get 25% black, 25% khaki, and 50% dun. We have mated duns together in the past but now we do black x dun matings.

Since it is summer, all of our sumatras seem to want chicks and have been sneaky about it. One of the dun hens was hiding in a hut in one of the grow out pens, I forgot all about her until yesterday when she had 4 chicks. There are 3 dun & 1 black, all of them have a bright head spot and slight...

The males are supoosed to have the horizontal tail while the females tail is supposed to be carried at a 15 degree angle

Not trying to be mean here, just posting a critique. His earlobes are larger than some of the good leghorn males I have seen out there. I have seen some bantams with saggy lobes like that but never a large fowl, he is largefowl, right?

We finally got more rain but also 70 mph winds again so we lost power and the plants were whipped around and trees everywhere were uprooted. There were even a few new fires started due to down powerlines

We lost power last week and haven't had internet since then, hate using all the data on my phone but I had to chime in about the backs. The slope of the back is related to the whole type of the bird, without the slope of the back, you're going to have issues with the shape of breast and the...

Yep, it is part of the natural cycle here in the west. Fires would normally burn through everything and renew it all. Burns out all the old undergrowth and dead grass/brush to start again. Some seeds even grow best after a fire has been through. A good example of our weather up here is that...

We will probably just drive straight through and take turns driving. When we go to a hotel, we just leave the birds in the car for the night, no one has complained yet. We did have a wildfire not far from home last week that burned over 1000 acres and there is one closer to Spokane as well. It...

For us, we have to go to the coast (5-7 hours) or Montana (5-6 hours). We may be going to Stockton this winter and still planning on Ohio next year which is about a 35 hour drive each way.

I am the kind of person that enjoys the natural things. Like when I get a bad headache at work, I'll smear uddermint lotion on the spot that hurts, I also have used plain mint oil too. Or if your birds poop is too runny, give them cracked corn to firm it up. I love sharing these kinds of...

Honey works wonders for wounds as well. My reconstructive surgeon would always apply honey to my wounds after he replaced stitches and such. We've used it on chickens quite a bit and it does great. Honey wont allow anything to live inside a wound and it is natural.

Sorry to hear about that! Way back when I was a kid, I was attacked by a pit bull and still have the scars to show. I hope your birds are ok otherwise.
