Jeremy Whoppel (j-whip) at XWpoultry farms has some his list is usually quite extensive annually so the sooner one can place an order/request the better. Jeff

Everytime Jeremy posts here and Walt over there and Scott yonder in another area and Matt's glorious wins, I think man o' man I'm so glad I got the same stuff here with the same potentials as those guys to work with. It sure gives one a greater feeling of future successes huh? LOL good job...

Here here too. I like them pretty well. They do definitely take some getting used to with their slow maturity and slow feathering but once past that slow point they are good as any of my other "h" type stock I have here. Most assuredly nice to look at and easy on the eyes. Jeff

Or why don't you get in touch with Matt or Jeremy to see if they have a male with a tail(I'm a poet an didn't knowit)LOL they would sell you then you will still be in line with the same strain. I know these can be had in fact another who has some tails on the GS lines is Stan(tigercreek) on...

Eh something like that Cindy, But still all in all one would have to add a completely off gene in the mix something to the nature of Emu or Grouse to be so far off into outer space with something that it couldn't be brought back down to earth with a little creative effort and dilligence in...

I say yes you could cross the Stukel to the GS line to try to improve the GS tails, can't hurt a thing as I've said before "if its not there you got to go get it" but they are right on the no need to cross anything into the Stukel line it seems he has that issue ironed out already. Both of the...

The only one in those pics that maybe a pure BR is the last one all the rest are atleast half breeds, or hybridized crosses with, looks like something red. The one that is pullet looking second from last is a cuckoo pattern too not pure for barring you are not the first with these issues from...

A few others and me included believe it has to do with the sheer size of the chicks not being able to really move around well in the egg and lying them on their sides really messes their orientation up in the latter goings on. Jeff

This stuck out to me the most when reading the blog on the visit to Good Shepard farm and Franks advice. And I'm a witness too(seen it with my own 2 eyes) and firm believer in this information. Culling Next I asked about culling the extra roosters, since I know I don’t have room here to keep...

Thats is good news there Chris I hope you've found the answer to your dilemma, LOL remember I told you a while back about the school of hard knocks is how we've learned most of what we know, now. Unfortunate for some things, good for others LOL Jeff

I think the magic words here Chris I believe is the air cell still intact or broken is a big clue here something to look at next go around, I'm now leaning towards your post yesterday of you saying you're going to try the leaving the eggs uprighted instead of laying them down in the hatcher this...

I also agree here too Fred on the smaller/pullet eggs may have a whole bunch to do with this here issue you are correct these guys are monsterous even at hatch. The first time I saw my half breeds I got from Kathy BRxNH I was in awe at their size. I've never hatched chicks that size before. this...

The eggs being fertile is a pretty good indication the boys are good that is a given. The result of the embryo reaching this time frame and then quitting is an indication of a certain incubation problem either temps., moisture, nutrition/vitamin area. There is somewhere an info sheet/charts on...

Yeah but the ones Chris got are fairly close genetically, same as me. They are out of J-whips stock that he and others have had them long enough for them to be a clannish(group) type strain. You are correct the eggs or chicks from GS poultry will/are more than likely flock matings. Chris get...

Location: Northern CA Joined: 1/2012 Posts: 85 offline My GSBR are calmer birds that I can walk amongst, but do not want to be picked up. They will eat scratch from my hand. The lone cockerel is crowing and mating since about 6-7 months, and at almost 8 months has not been aggressive...

My GSBRs are very rambunctious<(not flighty by any means) and forage wide and far(busy birds) but the girls art too standoffish for a quick scruff under the neck or a walk by and pickup for a lovey-dovey, LOL. The boys they will stand around you and not get all sideways, but they are not lap...
