Sometimes, it is impossible to know what happens to chickens. They hide their symptoms until it is almost too late.
Did she have any other symptoms other than breathing heavily and sitting in her nesting box?
You have a really good 16 year old to go along with you that early in the morning! I could never get mine to do anything in the AM with me...lol

I am going to the Funky Chicken Coop Tour also... I am going to try to wake up early enough to go to the Chicken 101 class, but who knows!
