Well looks like my American game hicks will have to be seperated at 8.5 weeks. They just won't stop, even my barred rocks that I have in with them have stared fighting, which is normal for the pecking order, except that the game chicks will not leave them alone, so alone time it is.
I know several other people have American game on here, now what is the youngest you have had them start fighting? Mine are a bit over 8 weeks and they will not separate, at first I thought it was the pecking order but after 7 minutes neither one of them backed off, I separated them for a day...
Haha I was out there feeding when the rain began, I got soaked :(
Man have my ameraucanas changed a lot! There not very friendly but I guess that's my fault. I haven't spent as much time with them as I did with my other chicks.
She meant comb, she is talking about dubbing I believe, usually done in colder weather to reduce the chance of frostbite. Originally dubbing was done on the "working" game chickens so they were not obstructed during the event.
ETA: it is also a requirement for some show breeds, old English...
I am currently raising Cornish cross broilers. At 6 weeks the heaviest ( weighted about 20 minutes ago as today is the 6 week mark) was 1 lb 7 oz. The smallest was 15 oz. That is no where near market weight (:
Very very good information,
Have you looked at White Faced Black Spanish? Mine really need a lot work, the breed in general needs a lot of help as they are critically endangered. I just fell in love with them plus it also helps that they are very heat tolerant (:
I will hopefully be showing this fall and next year, the only place to hopefully get show quality chicks is from a breeder. I say hopefully because not every chick that hatches at a breeder is show quality.
Have you ever checked for mites? Look through his feathers if you see tiny moving dots or lil white clusters at the base of the feathers then you got mites.
