zip ties are just too difficult to remove. I don't reccommend them. The easiest think I found was colored velcro ties. They are often used to tie cords together. You can find them in walmart in the sewing/craft isle cheaper than in the electronics area. They can be cut to size and stay on as...
there are threads dedicated to raising mealworms. there you will find links to people who sell them. I bought mine from Amy Phillips, [email protected] I think her website is simply westknollfarm.com
Hope this helps. FYI they do get a smell if their bedding isnt kept changed, however the...
Ms Jellybean, I've been wanting to respond to your fencing questions. I used that same type of black plastic hardware cloth in my first coop and some in the run against dog kennel panels. It works well to keep birds inside. I don't feel it would hold up against a determined predator. We just...
I don't know how to copy links to other threads. But recently I started a thread about chicken nipples freezing, it that thread a person responded who has a link to an automatic pop door he has made. Sounded simple to make and I plan on do this soon myself. it is operated by using a car radio...
I have and issue I hope someone can suggest a solution. I have a lavender orpington rooster that we have raised since about 12 weeks old. In the past month, he has taken to attacking my dominate hen. Victoria is dominant by default really like everyone's kind old grandmother who is given respect...
We have used both the chicken nipples and cups for the past year. During this winter though, the pvc pipe shattered in the coop. Luckily the line was frozen enough that 25 gallons of cold water didn't cover our girls. We used pipe insulation - which the girls pick off. Then we used more and...
We have babies! Our broody production or RIR, hatched six of six eggs we placed under her. I'm OOT so my hubby is posting pics on facebook for me to see. I can't believe she did it!
This is our first winter with hens. I am relieved to hear that others have stopped laying as well. we have 11 laying hens, one of which is brooding, and we are currently getting one or two eggs a day. They are laying just inside the coop door, even though we have four nest boxes. I am thinking...
I agree she should be showing signs. My hatchery Americauna's could be sexed by about eight week just by looking at the comb and wattles. She is pretty.
So during our trapping of our chicken killer, we put all our chickens into the same coop. I little snugger that the big ones were used to, but still plenty of roosting space for all. Then we notice one of our red hens (either a RIR or production red - I don't know the difference) had taken up...
Sadly we lost three of our babies this week to a possum. Last night we caught and dispatched the killer.
Now to fortifying the coop further.
BTW possums do eat the head. At least two of ours were missing and no where to be found.
