I have used that stuff. My hens had some kind of worms & I bought the Verm-x because it is all natural, herbal, etc. It works great! As both a treatment and a preventative. I have used it since last summer and my hens are very healthy. They think it is a treat.
I have not been on in a while, but one of my hens is seriously broody (no roosters here...) wondered if anyone could spare a couple of hatching eggs? I would just like to see what will happen, if she will set them or not, etc. I'm a first-time chicken keeper & enjoying learning how these birds...
Hi Laura,
I am in Clarksville too. If you need him, there is a vet in Dover who I took a hen to last spring after a dog got in my yard and mauled her. The hen came through great & I would recommend Dr, jarod Johnson @ North Stewart Vet Clinic (931-232-9900). the vets in town here don't see...
LOL. Thanks, Donna... I went back & caught up on all the posts I missed re: permits/selling eggs, etc. The ice emergency & spring break really put me behind in my BYC reading.
I went to one of his workshops when Nashville was just legalized for backyard hens for eggs. It was great! I was brand new to chickens back then and I got a lot of good info, plus he's really entertaning.
Just wanted to share pics of a couple of pullets I got from Donna / DMRippy last week; birchen (?!?) Plymouth Rock and Fr. Blue Copper Marans. They are super healthy, big girls and are getting used to their new suburban backyard flock here, though I think they were confused by that apple!
Absolutely! That post also made me think: what about people who need assistance/service animals for whom a dog is not appropriate? I read an article not so long ago about a young blind woman in (I believe) New York or Boston for whom a dog was unsuitable due to her family's devout Muslim faith...
Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm kind of new to chicken fandom myself, but I had good luck the 1 time I went to Poultry Hollow, HOwever they do seem to have a spotty reputation. I just bought a couple of Donna's pullets and they are fantastic!
I think peeps are a pain in the neck, myself. I...
I may have asked this before, but...
Does anyone know if Ameraucanas are particularly susceptible to 'bumblefoot' in our region? Out of 5 birds, 3 of mine are Ameraucana and 2 of them have had problems with it this summer! (I suppose it could be a family thing, rather than a breed thing, since...
So sorry to hear you're going through this! Kudos to your neighbor for calling you tho'. When -my- neighbor's dog attacked my 5-bird suburban flock I had just let my girls out of their coop to range my fenced backyard. I left for work as usual, my dogs were in their run in the side-yard but my...
Sorry this happened to you! I live in Clarksville too, right in the 'burbs; I have seen a couple of hawks scoping out my 5 hens too. Maybe my dogs being in their run next to the chicken run has helped, iDK. Do you know what got your birds?
What age/breed are you looking for?
Is anyone interested in a very mellow cockerel? He is about 5 months old, supposed to be Speckled Sussex, but has some light feathering on his shanks. I got him in Puryear this spring, saw what were supposed to be his parents & both looked just like speckled sussex in a book, clean legged. I...
Random question, there was a listing on Craigslist last month for sussex chicks & older near Nashville airport area. Is that person on here, or anybody know anything about it? Just wondering, thanks.
Thanks for the advice! Today my bird snapped out of it, i guess robbing her eggs and pulling her out of the egg box three days in a row broke the broody. LOL.
Hope everyone comes out of the flooding ok & it dries out soon.
Wow, that is one stunning bird. Is she black & gold & white or chocolate brown & gold & white ? (looking at this on a phone so it's hard to tell) Just amazing.
