I'm sort of the same way. I always make sure I have at least a few hens in general population for eating eggs. Makes me mad if i have to buy store eggs when I have chickens.

A cockerel I got for my pullet. FREE! I think I got a good deal. He never STOPS!! But I love the sound!

These are the most overly friendly birds. And picture hogs too!

Bought the bator last year. Got the hatcher this year. Hatch all or maybe not just one every time. Finally figured them out. lol

:}!! Very! Except when a new cockerel goes in the roo side. Then it's hell for a few hours until they determine who is in charge. Then it goes back to normal.
