I have a problem with a chick and can't find any post that help. I have a chick that hatched on Sunday not doing well. It was fine last night. This morning I found it laying on its side gasping for air. Being stepped on by it's 18 other siblings. Since then I have been carrying it around in a...

Oh I think I got Americana's from you 3 years ago? Are you close to the Mennonite farm area? If so I still have some of your hens. They all laid large and jumbo blue eggs. But a couple didn't have beards. I liked them because they where bigger than some others I have gotten from other farms...

Yes, it's going to hit 90 here today and no A/C it's broken ;-{ Capasitor is to blame I think. It was replaced last Jan as well as a blower for the same reason. Hope it isn't the blower motor again. It's hard to find for this unit and expencive.

I lost my last hatched chick I helped out last night. It wouldn't drink or eat. So my first attempt at incubating my own wasn't so great. 19 chicks out of 48 eggs. I will change the humidity next time. I will not add water for the first 18 days then I'll fill all the trays up. I lost 6 in the...

My first hatch is over. I started out with 48 EE and OE eggs. My first chick came out on the 19th day. Then the others came out on the 20th-22nd day. I had 4 zip or put holes in the shells but not make it out on day 20. Day 22 The last 4 where doing the same peeping but couldn't get out of the...

3 amigos so far. This waiting to see if my hatch rate is awful is killing me. I still hear some peeping in the eggs and I see holes. 48 eggs set and 3 so far. It's better than nothing I guess. Maybe when I wake up I'll have a bunch hatch.

Well, I got my first incubator batch in lock down. I tried many times to candle them. The shells where too dark and thick. I could see into the blue ones ok with a very strong LED light. I am a worried about the hatch. For the first 18 day the humidity was 47%-53%. When it would spike over 50% I...

Well, After much tweaking this weekend over the new incubator, I got it stable @49% humidity and 37.6 c temp 99.68F. If the humidity drops below 45% an alarm goes off. I took the Styrofoam that it came packed in and modified it, so the drain holes matched. So temp isn't my problem now. I don't...

One more thing. I had to put it up on block so I could put a dish under it to catch water. It has 4 drain holes in the bottom. You can't over fill it or it runs out. I found out the hard way.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261410363468?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 It was $179 with shipping. Not cheap but not crazy expensive either. So far I am having a hard time getting the humidity up to 60 I"m at 53 now. It has a lot of chambers in the bottom to fill with water...

Hello fellow Tennesseans, I just stepped up my chicken hobby. I got an Eggubator. It holds 48 eggs in an automatic turner. Since I am a noob at incubation other than a broody chicken, I will take all comments good and bad LOL first the system I bought is in Celsius not Fahrenheit. So, that...

I'll throw my 2 cents in. On one end I would box it in.Say 4'-6' feet deep. Put nest boxes on the back side for easy egg collection. Put a door for humans as well as chickens. Don't put a threshold. It makes it easy to sweep/shovel stuff out if there isn't a board across the bottom of the door...

Ah My mom lived in Crump for years. I loved her house and land. She had a house in the side of a hill on 10 acres with a year around creek. The house was always dark because the only windows was siders across the front. Do you still have a huge flea market there? Loved it and miss the shoe man...

I went to war on wild cats this year too. A live trap set up by my coop has caught many things. They got smart and I had to start tying turkey wing tips to the back of the cage. They would go in and eat the can food and not spring the trap. The fresh wing tip makes them greedy and will pull at...
