I am going to order some Pyncheon Bantams from Strombergs. I don't really want a full 25 though. If someone wants to split an order with me (you can order whatever breed you want) I would love to go halvsies.

This summer I am going to be traveling between Nashville and Richmond, Virginia to see my brother. On the way back I am planning to pick up hatching eggs for myself. If anyone would be interested in me picking up for them along that route (primarily the I-40) let me know and we will try to...

I am breathlessly waiting for my husband to file his taxes. He has promised me a new incubator after we purchase a proper refrigerator. Currently our refrigerator is a chest style Redddi Wip that was being thrown out from the grocery store where he works. Our former refrigerator bit the dust...

I am dancing between breeds. I just can't seem to decide on what I want to concentrate on. I can have 12 chickens. That means either 1 roo and 11 hens or 2 roos and and 10 hens if I want two breeds Then I thought that I would like a full sized dual purpose chicken and then a maybe a couple of...

I understand the necessity of some animal testing. The thing is now you only have to do a test like that a few times with sensors gathering data and you can engineer a test dummy chicken that can perform the tests without having to shoot real chickens into the wind shields. But being drunk was...

I'll see if that is the case. Flamingos are actually white. It is their diet of shrimp that makes them pink. Still even if the ear lobes are just dyed yellow I am intrigued about the thought of seeing if I can stablize his color pattern (within the B/B/S range of course) for an Olive Egger/EE. I...

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone had a good one. I got some pictures of my chickens on the phone camera but have no idea how to upload them to my computer. I will have to borrow my son-in-laws phone and have him email them to me. One of the cockerels I have is out of the Sapphire hen...

So I wanted to get a closer look at one of the cockerals that are growing out. He is a Saphire/Olive Egger cross and is lavender barred with orange shoulders. I scooped him up just a dusk but scared him so bad. He had apparently just been pigging out on a bunch of fly maggot and he began to...

There is a farm in Olinda, TN that is selling organic and non-GMO grains. Minimum purchase 300 pounds. Haven't gotten up there yet but I am going to get some feed for my sheep and chickens as soon as I get a day off from work (not this week). http://windyacrestn.com/

I had an internet shepherd friend tell me this method for discouraging all predators. You have you an electric fence. Then you fold strips of aluminum over the wires and smear them with peanut butter. The predator licks the peanut butter and gets the full shock effect in their wet mouth. They...

Sorry about that. I am late to the party on this but if you have a wound like this again I sprinkle the wound with sugar then use Neosporan with no pain killer. The sugar dissolves and forms a "skin" that keeps the large wound from dehydrating the animal. It also feeds the damaged cells and...

Hi! I had Crystal, my OE, hen go broody so I stuffed some OE eggs and some Silver Penciled Bantam Wyandotte eggs under her. Fingers crossed that she will go the full time. Brought the feed out this evening and when I bent over to pour the feed into the pan my roo jumped me. He jumped me last...

I wanted to show off my only chick to hatch at Easter. This is a Sapphire/SPBWyandotte cross. Both the Sapphire hen and the SPBW roo came from Donna. She feather sexed as a girl and when I vent checked at 3 weeks it still seemed to be a girl. She has a rose comb. Her baby name is Cheep. Her...

BTW at the Hendersonville TSC their staff is way more helpful and knowlegeable about the birds. One of the girls who works there really knows her chicks. She can tell you all the different breeds of the bantams in the tub.

If they were the same ones I saw last week they were 4 toed Silkie mutts. That was before they reduced the price. I certainly wasn't going to pay full price for 4 toed ones. They had the black beaks and skin and some scattered feathering on the legs but they only had 4 toes.
