Ha..I am soooo with you on this. Some of our coops and runs are on hills...mudsliding thru the run to fill the feeders has become our new "at home" sporting event. I see on the weather forecast that it is 100% chance of rain for us on Saturday...grrrrrr.
Woke up at 4:15 AM to snow flakes a'fallin'....I sure don't remember that being in the forecast for this week. Hate that it snapped back to cold esp since we just put our juvenile Blue Jersey Giants out in their own coop and pen on Sunday.
Oh, and Michael says Holly has the following in Silkies: Buff, Paint, BBS, Lav, white and porcelain. He says he thinks she had some partridge, but may have sold them all..and he can't remember when she sold them, so not sure if you got partridge eggs or not. That probably doesn't help, does it
Donna..Holly and Jonathan are on a cruise and have no internet connection right now. They will be back from this cruise for about 5 minutes and then are off on another one to get married, so I don't know if they will get much internet time in between. What is MFL? is that what you said you...
Donna, this is our first winter with Roosters...we had no indication of frost bite until 2 days after the cold. Can the combs totally recover. They have like a spot here and there..a couple on the points and one guy got the back of his comb. No one got it bad enough for their combs to fall...
I have a Standard Barred Rock hen that is 10 months old..nice red comb, big girl, healthy...hasn't laid a single egg...her sister has been laying 3 months.
Yep....eyeing the neighbor's property..hahahaha. Michael says they are prob near 100 lbs..just don't think I'm going to get one to jump into the Juke. LOL
Donna...Monday is supposed to be single digits down here by the River. We have the 9 pens and Michael put out all new waters (thawed ones) and by the time I got home from work, they all had iced...then he went to Holly & Jonathan's..where there are more than 30 pens..all frozen waterers...LOL...
What is it with people?? I cried all the way to work one morning because I was just sure I had run over a big frog. I've nearly wrecked trying to avoid cats, dogs, possums, raccoons..and of course DEER. It amazes me that someone would go out of their way to deliberately run down an animal!!!
Beware of Sam Gonzalez. He is on several chicken and Turkey sites asking for people to send him feathers and says he will pay the shipping. He dose not follow though with as promised. I shipped him several turkey tails and wings along with other various feathers and things. A cost of over 48$...

Babies must be introduced. Usually you section off part of your run or put your new babies in a cage inside the run with the bigger/older birds so they can get accustomed to each other safely. After a couple of days, you can usually let them out and other than some "pecking order" scuffles...
We had 12 hatch lost 3. They hatched 1 and 2 days later than the others and never thrived. Lost them in two days. The rest are growing like weeds. We have 3 that appear black and the rest blue. 4 or 5 roos.the blues are very nice. Thank you so much. Holly now has 14 blue, black and splash jersey...
