I've given chicks to a broody hen, wait till dark and sneak them under her. Be sure she is alone with them, not with the other adult chooks, in a separate pen. Usually this works, but watch the first day to be sure she doesn't turn on them....

Question; I've got a blue Am hen who lays small, inch to inch and 1/2 long eggs, without a yolk. This has been going on all spring, she never laid last fall like her sister. I keep waiting for the eggs to get bigger, but so far no luck. Donna, anyone, have you guys experienced this before?

LOL, LOL, LOL!!! That's hilarious! They do kinda actively look for ways to die don't they? I got 16 in July, finally got a barn up for them to stay in, in Nov., got them locked in there full time and waiting until I can let them free range...most said wait 6-10 weeks so they know to go back...

8 week old chicks should be fully feathered and able to handle cooler temps, I think you'll not have any problems, but why do you need to wait 8 weeks before adding them to the main flock? I thought 4 weeks quarantine was adequate?
