I've given chicks to a broody hen, wait till dark and sneak them under her. Be sure she is alone with them, not with the other adult chooks, in a separate pen. Usually this works, but watch the first day to be sure she doesn't turn on them....

I've got a blue Am hen who lays small, inch to inch and 1/2 long eggs, without a yolk. This has been going on all spring, she never laid last fall like her sister. I keep waiting for the eggs to get bigger, but so far no luck. Donna, anyone, have you guys experienced this before?

8 week old chicks should be fully feathered and able to handle cooler temps, I think you'll not have any problems, but why do you need to wait 8 weeks before adding them to the main flock? I thought 4 weeks quarantine was adequate?
