I have Barnies. I like them. Good layers, eggs not as dark as Marans but a nice color. A few of them lay a slightly speckled egg. Calm & layed back. I have Speckled Sussex and Australorps & they all get along.
Don't be concerned. Typically turkeys start anywhere from late January till early March. Over on the Turkey Talk thread we noted that last year we had a bunch of hens throughout the country start in late November, mine included. Now this year, by in large, they are just starting to think...
Sooo.....will you be hatching Narri's this spring?? I have a blue slate hen I just adore. Everytime I sit down she hops in my lap & settles down for a snooze!
Cinny...so sorry about your hen. Lost my favorite a few months ago and like you it hit me hard. I still miss her. Funny how attached we get to these girls.
Just wanted to say to JtownCicken & Cacooley that I'm in Memphis too! We used to have a small West Tennessee thread but it died. I have Barnevelders (from Bev/Chickensmart) and Speckled Sussex.
Also saw TNbearchick from east tennessee post a day or so ago...are they raising Bielefelders...
Well we had ice here. Roads cleared pretty quickly this morning. It's only 17. And snow flurries all day. Not a lot of people out. I'm just so over this winter!
