These are all issues we encountered in our first staggered hatch... the same reasons why we will not be doing a staggered hatch ever again. Tonight, when I set the new clutch, there will be 36 eggs going in all at once, so there will be a definite LOCK-DOWN after the last by-hand...
These were our own mixed breed eggs, our first time hatching eggs ever, 5 groups(grp1 set on day 1 grp 2 set on day 2, etc.) of eggs all in the same incubator... in other words a staggered hatch. After candling on day 10 it was discovered that only 35 of the 43 remained viable. Also, rough time...
Now that all of the eggs that are going to hatch, have hatched, we did the calculating and discovered that for our first incubation ever, we had a 48.6% hatch rate. Is this good, bad, or somewhere inbetween?
