those chicks are not a pure BCM .
they are BCM X Golden salmon . because they have the brown lacing .
if they where wheaten X BCM they will have a more uniform mossiness no lacing .
I recon your breeder has a Salmon rooster over her BCM . hard to tell if you don t know the breed .nly...

Thank you guys for having around but this is the last time I ll post a comment.
seem to me that your chooks have a different genetic make up
I thought they are marans and they have a same genetic make up like the rest of the marans in the world.
SORRY I WAS WRONG THAT NOT THE CASE .
GOOD...
no doubt about that he s handsome .he will be great for cross breeding with a blue and green eggs layers .
by crossing him you will gain a Hybrid Vigor ( other world bigger and healthier bird )
chooks man
HI OregonKat your rooster is handsome but he ll throw 100% black pullets with a black eyes.Cockerels is different story depend of the color of the hen( they mam )..
Could be use over hens with a great eyes color, great type and overly marked ( too much copper on they chest ) .
avoid to use...
That is a good point I see where you are coming from.
agree with you 100% we should test mate our breeding stock to see what are made up off .
the same thing happen here in Australia ,they have been crossed with all sort of thing.that why I m hatching great numbers ..this year I kept 90 bird...
Snowbird WE have nothing to agree or disagree, BECAUSE we did not make a standard .we are discussing it.pretty logic .
BUT the standard has nothing to do with what YOU or ME or somebody else like or dislike .is not up to us
The Standard is for every body to apply if they want to achieve...
I agree with you Snowbird . by not breeding from a male that was week on the hackle color.
nice rich ,lush coppery hackle
flames has nothing to do with a richness of the copper.
look at the Salmon marans hens hackles ,they have hackles with a large flame all the way from top to end...
here a French standard about the leg color. - tarsi-
Average size , with some feathers White or lightly pink coloured for all the varieties except for the BLACK. BROWN -RED and BIRCHEN Marans were grey or dark grey is permitted , although NOT preferred for both sexes .Four long and well...
I don t see t as sprig. like I said before it s not excellent at the rear but not sprig . he will not loose point ah the show.because of the ruff texture .
if he had a sprig he will be disqualify . NOT a CHAMPION.
sprig is a disqualification and they are strict about t.
Chooks man
Flame on the hackle of a BCM Rooster will produce pullets with incomplete hackle manly where the head and neck meet.
what the APS say about the BCM legs color ?
chooks man
his feet are light slate at the top front and pink/white at the rear and toes.
i don t see any sprig it is not a excellent around end but no sprig for sure.
We are dealing with a French champion here .So we have to observe properly and compare what we see to a French standard.is they chooks...
Here what I see in the French champion BCM coq
Type ; Excellent .nice and long No square Neither Tall.
Head = pretty , solid
Eyes = well colored
Beak = well curved and colored .thick and Solid.
Comb =nice size ,well erected , free from defect . well serrated .Good texture and color.
Wattle =...
He is gorgeous .he wasn t a champion for nothing look at him stunning ,Excellent type and color .
he have 2 great trait showing he s well balanced color wise and he will throw nicely colored progeny ( No black pullets with this guy)
First thing is his hear TUFT same color as his hackle...
I start selecting as hatching,.there is many things to look for and they change with time as they grow up.
5/6 month is a good time to do a final selection.but the gorgeous one s they appear early.
take nice photos of each from different angle and we help you out to select.
here the area...
