Well... so far it looks like a no go on the eggs. Today marks a week they've been in the bator, and here's what we saw...
small egg 1 & 2 - not porous, air sacs noticeable, and what looked like the yolks... no babies, yolks moved slowly as we turned the eggs, no veins
large egg 1 - porous...
Well, today is day 6 in the incubator. Eggs seem to be doing well. Tomorrow we candle them for the first time to see if anything is going on. I hope there is, but if not... it will be the end of my thread. Let's hope for the best!
I'm so excited... and anxious. Today we ordered our silkie chicks. We not only got those, but a couple female speckled sussex for our current roo. Figured it would be nice to have some pure bred sussex babies someday. They'll be here mid-May. Can't wait! And I've got a brooder area set up...
LOL I know! I am already anxious for the hatching to begin and I've only just put them in the bator.. like 4 days ago! It is SO hard to wait! This is exciting as anything!!
Well things are still going good. Temperature and humidity are still stable. And thanks to some advice above, I am now turning 3 times per day. We'll be candling this weekend... Either Saturday or Sunday. Any suggestions on which day would be best? Eggs went in this past Sunday. I don't...
I was told twice a day, and that's how we did it last time and nothing went wrong....
When I get the money, I will be buying a better incubator with an automatic turner. Then I don't really have to do too much until time to set.
Sunday... Jan. 30th - Everything in order... eggs went in at 9:45 am
Monday... Jan. 31st - Everything still in good order
Tuesday... Feb. 1st - Everything is great... turning eggs twice per day
Wednesday... Feb. 2nd - No power outages, looking good... still not out of the snow storm...
So far so good! Temp and humidity is regulated, turning twice a day. This weekend we'll candle for the first time and I will let you all know what we find out.
Alrighty. Eggs were put in the bator at 9:45 this morning. We plan to candle on days 8 and 14, and will post to let you all know. In total, we have 1 double yolker laid by Gloria, and two more normal sized eggs from her... and 2 of miss Mable's eggs, that's 5 eggs... 6 possible chicks. We...

What would that do? I really don't understand what is going on. The temp reads good, but the humidity doesn't. The lid is on right, and there is more water in there than needs to be (Even more than would be needed for the last three days... and it's still reading low!) What is going...
Well, our new bator is up and going, but still not putting the eggs in. Ugh! The darn digital thermometer/hygrometer combo is showing too low of humidity, and shouldn't be for how much water is in there. (I've used this kind of bator before.) I filled all resevoirs (sp) plus added two little...
Alrighty... incubator is set up. Egg (plus a few extra for grins and giggles) are going in tomorrow. Will keep posting with updates for those following this thread.
I wonder... would a cloth glove work if I only used them to turn the eggs? I just went out looking for some new gloves, and got stuck with a two pack since that was all I could find. Maybe I could use the extra gloves for egg turning? Any thoughts on this?
That would be sad to have happen. But I'm going for it. I'm afraid to handle them because my hands are oily, and sweat a lot. I don't want to cause any unnecessary issues. Thanks for the encouragement though! I really appreciate it!
That was very helpful. Thank you. I was going to place the egg in the bator today, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow. Giving a hatch/due date of around the 19th. I think I will lay it on it's side, so if it does develop... maybe both chicks will have an air sack. This egg is super big...
