How is everyone now? Moppit is on the rollercoaster thing again; up one day, down the next. We have treated her for lice and also dewormed her with Fenbendazole two days ago; she was terrible next day; but much better today again. Stopped the antibiotics and resumed the avian vitamin/...
You know you might have something, we are going to try to treat moppit again tomorrow; come to think of it she did seem to improve when we dusted her before, she is much worse again now, back to square one. Because of her nosebleeds I googled nosebleeds in chickens; haha; google was mystified...
OH, also another thing...last year the State of Ohio vet told me that, when you are treating a sick bird, even though antibiotics may not help the condition you are treating for, it will help to combat secondary infections the bird might pick up that will weaken it. I have found this to be...
Here's something you can try. Don't know if will help, can't hurt, as far as I know. We noticed Moppit had a bit of nasal congestion; not bad, no discharge, or anything; just stuffy. The ChickenDoctor thought it was possible she might have an inner ear infection, because of her balance...
Thank you, how is everyone else doing? Just wanted to share that the Terramycin does seem to be helping, though too early to tell yet. She is lots stronger, still balance issues, but eating much better. Still always at the waterer, though.
Moppit seems a bit stronger; we've been mixing her vitamin formula with yogurt. Still is falling and has serious balance problems, but noticed that her legs and feet work fine and she is kicking hard now as she struggles when we force feed her. Started her on a big dose of Terramycin today...
Yes, there are so many look alike things in chickens. Moppit doesn't have any leg swelling either. Unfortunately, she does have a some of the symptoms of botulism, the most specific one being the difficulty swallowing, she also has the limp neck thing (though not bad), she seems to have...
Wellll...sounds like you may be on the right track, at least with our hen. She has a problem swallowing....I guess I'll be off to the drugstore for some epsom salts...
You might want to try calcium for yours...we did for ours for a while and it did seem to help for a couple of days. You take a Tum tablet, crush it, and mix with her food. We had fruit-flavored tums and our Moppit liked those, we didn't have to mix them with anything but her layer crumbles.
We have a hen with a very similar condition. I have posted about her a couple of times. She started out clumsy and has slowly gotten worse. She sits on her rear, has trouble walking, falls frequently, poor weight., does not eat well. Her feathers are usually scraggly too, from falling in...
