I wanted to clarify...regardless of Tates Beliefs; we were not asked to leave and did not get into trouble. We choose to leave because we disagree with staff on deciding to let a member stay on the thread...

on the rat thing.... Thank goodness I have not seen a rat this year. I did however catch 7 field mice in 2 days. No wonder I was going through so much food, lol. I'm lucky though I have a seperate area where the food is stored so I can put the traps in there and the chickens can't get to them.

If she does not, I do. My October 29 hatch yielded 2 that I am going to keep for breeding the blues. So I will have at least 3 more cockerals out of that same hatch that you are welcome to. They are already starting to test each other :(

There is nothing wrong with hens over a year old at all. Most hens will lay fairly well into their third year (if you are talking about laying ability alone) Of course commercial egg laying operations do in fact get rid of them at a year old......but that is something completely different than...

"" Many breeders who breed for animal protection raise the pups in a barn with animals. "" My father in law has two, and that is what he did. Now they sleep with the chickens and play with them..but they will go after even a field mouse if it gets too close. My Harley is 120 lbs, his female...

In my experience... I see a big change in roosters at about 20weeks old on the average. Usually the pullets have just started laying or are getting ready to when I notice the change... Like AJ said.
