Thanks Lady of McCamley and Bumpercarr,
So my Legbar Rooster crossed with an Austrolorp hen will most likely produce a green egg layer? The only thing I'm not clear on is whether the Roos have both blue genes? That's a great article!
Thank you, I think they are just adorable! I'm probably gonna keep them. I may sell the best one if he turns out to be show quality. Do you know what the egg color would be if I crossed them with another breed?
I know everyone on this thread likes the chic picks! :P. My little Roos are gonna be two months old, I can't believed its been that long since they hatched!
I didn't lose two hens, only the one but the hawk couldn't fly off with her because of her size. It had to try to eat on the spot which was under the deck next to the house. I am home all day and out with my girls several times during the day, normally. I was traveling and the hens were with...

I just lost my first hen to a hawk:(. What does everyone do with the carcass? Should I just let the scavengers have it so at least it's not a total waste to nature? My poor little chicken, she was the only one that wasn't a good flyer.
You know, I have noticed a lot of people getting a lot of broodies when they have a barnyard mixed flock. That is when you let all the roosters and hens mate and just get a mixed breed chicken, correct????
@vpatt

I started my dual purpose flock early 2014 with the intention of butchering for meat when the time comes. I haven't done any butchering yet as my birds are still young and laying tons of eggs. I keep going over it in my mind so hopefully I will be mentally prepared when the time comes. I...
