My two mommas are doing well with their babies, still have 6 broody silkies on 6 eggs due at the end of next week. Thought this was too funny!

I like to keep my moms and chicks separate for a bit to make sure that babies are learning to eat and drink without the rest of my flock trying to horn in. I keep them in a fenced off section of my coop. Once I see that moms and babies are comfortable going back and forth and moms are freely...

It's taken me awhile to get caught up on everyones news, I've been away from the computer for awhile. Loving all the new pictures! I have 3 polish eggs on day 19 and 7 broodies. They are taking up most of my nestboxes! It's very hormonal around here and they are beating up the rest of the flock.

Mine are only off for about 10-15 mins. when they are broody and then run right back to the eggs. Mine seem to only leave every other day. On the days they don't leave, I will usually give them a hard boiled egg cut in half in the nest with them to eat or some meal worms . They seem to...

Thanks, Two Toes is one of my fluffier silkie hens although she is the only one without feathering down the legs. She has two fused 5th toes on one leg, hence her name. I think she is starting to molt if you can't tell in the pic. I came home yesterday to feathers all over the place in there.

The few times I have had a broody raise her chicks in the flock, I have never had any of my roos try and protect the chicks, mama did that. My first two broody moms actually kicked some roo butt for coming too close. You have a really gentle roo there if he helped sit on your babies! Usually...

1st- perchie, love your roos! wildriverswolf90- she should stay on the nest until the rest hatch. Sometimes you have to remove the eggs that didn't hatch under a broody so she will finally get off and take care of baby, so don't worry about her leaving. Some separate from the flock and...

I finally got a picture of my little one with mama. Its 17 days old. In the smaller fenced off area, mom seems to be taking good care of him and not walking off without like she did on Friday.

I hope you have another broody you can give your eggs to. Chickens can be so trying at times!

This is her first time. My concern is she wasn't even clucking to the little one when he was lost, just going about her business. I have a fenced off area outside in the chicken yard that I keep up for emergencies. It has a retrofitted doghouse in it. I'm thinking about carrying her and baby...

This one is a silkie so I am a bit suprised. My last two moms were silkies and they were great mothers, I think they stopped sitting on their babies at about 12 weeks as well. It was ridiculous!

I'm not very happy with my mamma hen at the moment. Her chick is 2 weeks old today and yesterday was the first time I allowed the two of them outside to mingle with the rest of the flock. (I have had them in a fenced off area of the coop so the little one can get used to the others and so the...

I have another broody sitting on an egg. I had two broodies in the fall raise 3 chicks and I hadn't planned on hatching this year but one of my silkies, who has never been a mom, decide she wanted a baby. She had been broody for about a month and wasn't sitting on anything, so for a couple of...

I have a serious case of broodiness going on at my place. Several of my other silkies are jealous of my two mamas with babies, so now I have 4 more that have gone broody on me. Unfortunately I don't want to start anymore this late in the year. Poor babies will just have to wait until winter...

I feel really bad, I haven't been on the computer in 4 days or so and was way behind on everyone's news. Good to see more babies. I had an interesting last few days as well. My other 2 out of 3 eggs hatched on Sunday. Here is a pic of my two mommas and their 3 chicks. The 3rd chick is under...
