No problem bobbie! You were so helpful on my last broody!! We found some newly hatched chicks--4 BCM's & 2 Partridge Chantecler/Faverolle cross. We lost the littlest BCM to overheating. I slipped everyone under the 2 Mamas at night. The next morning, Mama #1 decided to peck any chick she...
I need to bump this up. Bobbieschicks any advice? My co-sitting Sizzles eggs did not hatch Friday Day 21 and today is Day 27. I didn't candle because they were tucked way under the nesting boxes. We, my sister & I, were not sure if they were fertile even though she does have a rooster. My...
I'm so sorry for you Johnn! It is never an easy decision!! I haven't been on here for quite awhile but I know he was being a real stinker back around February. I had to re-home my very good boy, Marshall, the one who fed the chicks from his beak. We live in town and quite close to neighbors. He...
So the eggs my co-sitting Sizzles did not hatch Friday Day 21 and today is Day 25. I didn't candle because they were tucked way under the nesting boxes. We, my sister & I, were not sure if they were fertile even though she does have a rooster. My question is what happens to my hens if I take the...
Sounds like she was more than ready to protect them so hopefully she'll accept them. Good Luck!!
Everyone is still setting well here so heeerrre we go! Hatch Day is May 24th.
Good Luck with the eggs, Johnn!
I put all the Ameracauna eggs under Janice since she's already hatched 2 broods. I put the others under Blue because this will be her first hatch. I go out to check on them this morning. BTW...they are setting in the box. Janice moved her wings a little...I...
Hey Everyone! I'm back with 2 broodies this time. My Sizzles--Janice & Blue--are sitting on 5 eggs each from my sister's hens. They both went broody about a week ago. Janice first then Blue joined her. Of course they'd pick UNDER the nesting boxes to set up shop. I think they enjoy watching...
I have new pics!!
Chicks are now 4 weeks old. They love to be outside! They certainly listen when the roo gives the warning call!
This is Chipmunk.

I do have a neti pot. I'm just a tad leary of using it again. I was using it last year and came down with a double ear infection & sinus infection that kept me out of work for 3 weeks.
Hi Everyone, I don't have any new pics of the chicks but just had to share what I saw last night. Spot, one of the BR chicks, was roosting on the top roost all by herself. I was so proud of her!! I don't know if she stayed there all night. Momma & the other chicks were on the floor. Tonight...
Hi Lawatt,
I am a newbie as well and my Sizzle just hatched 4 eggs in the coop with 4 other hens & 1 rooster. I had planned to enclose her within the coop but after listening to a few people on this thread, I just let her be. Everyone here is great! Very supportive!! There are no silly...
My roo points out food for the chicks. He also steps between the babies & the big girl,Chiquita, who likes to chase them. I've seen him herd her away several times. She might be headed for solitary confinement if she keeps that up. She wasn't the one who I was worried about either.
I put 6...
x10 what maggiemo said!! Another newbie here who had a broody, set eggs under her, left momma & babies in the main coop w/the rest of the flock (much to the dismay/shock/disapproval of many people in my area). It was the longest 21 days of my life. And I owe my gratitude to all on this thread...
Debs55--I could only see the dark masses & good air cells in my eggs too. 4 of the 6 eggs hatched after I was convinced that nothing was going to hatch. Good Luck!
Beautiful baby!!
