Thank you for the information!!! am taking note of everything, hoping for the best, worst case scenario they will just be in the brooder by themselves and I will not use my broody, gonna give it a shot though. will keep everyone posted monday! :) thanks again!!!
@Lady of McCamley thank you so much! I will be giving this a try and let you know how it goes, no internet access through the weekend so will post monday.... stay tuned!!! gonna attempt tonight in the cover of dark and hope my little silkie will enjoy grafting... she was pretty fiesty...
HELP! ok, so quick background.... my broody of forever (poor girl has been broody for like 3 months) went on strike 5 days prior to hatch.... I hatched out 10 nice little fuzzy chicks, who are now in my brooder in the house. I had another hen just go broody today.... (chicks hatched...
She is a silkie, sweet little thing, I let my other little sillkie Cloudy brood for me last fall and mid brood Stormy thought she'd like to also, but I didn't let her, so she's been having the itch since then. I am excited for her to finally have her own little chicks. And also like you said...
ok, just gave my broody some eggs yesterday, NERVOUS! this is her first hatch, but the poor thing has been patiently being broody it seems like forever.... gave her 3 of my own eggs that were showing veining and one of my shipped eggs, gonna check in a few days and if all are still developing...
well my eggs should be here tomorrow, I hope! or so says the usps tracking page, and we all know that is 100% reliable....
I am ready at any rate... my broody is quarantined and sitting tightly on the egg I gave her (and keep switching out daily). And my bator is fired up and ready! My kids...
thank you @Lady of McCamley and @fisherlady for your replies! Will start smaller then and go from there, I do candle my broodies so will stuff bator eggs that are making it under her as we go and as she handles stuff as well, sooo exciting!!!! now to patiently wait for my eggs to...
hi all, getting the hatching itch! I have a broody that has been patiently sitting while I take away the eggs daily... getting in some shipped eggs in another week and a half (poor thing waiting!) anyhow, wondering how many eggs to put under my little broody silkie and how many to put in my...
thank you for help on rooster, he really does look like the jersey giants, but yeah the yellow legs throw me, I see the rhode island red legs in him, and he has a little reddish hue to his feathers too. very pretty guy, but HUGE too, although we have only silkies and him, so anything looks huge.
cute pics!! @fisherlady after a few google searches I see some rhode island red in him too with his yellow legs... but he sure does look like your guy too, I wonder if a cross between the two?? does it result in anything like that? thank you for the help though!
hello all, unrelated question, this is my son's rooster "jewel" wondering if anyone knew what type he was? he won him in a contest and we have no clue what type he is... we have only silkies....he's pretty young, just getting in his tail feathers and just started crowing a few weeks ago.
hi everyone, I may have asked this earlier... but now that I actually have chicks am more concerned... my 3 are doing great, is hatch day for my 4th who is in the bator, mom and the other 3 are moving around in their little enclosure,
here's the QUESTION! :) our regular sized rooster who is...
Thank you!!! she did poo yesterday in the nest box she's in, I scooped it out right away cuz it just reeked.... I have curtains on my nest boxes so took her curtain down and have her nest box enclosed now with some wire so no one can disturb them for a bit, plus the temp just dropped here too...
ok question to anyone.... we have 3 cute little fluffy chicks under Cloudy right now, when should she bring them to the food and water? the last chick was still damp this morning and the first one hatched yesterday.... she's a first time and so am I so of course I am just paranoid, and she...
Ok, we have chicks!!!! Cloudy has done great so far!!! out of 4 eggs 3 are out and I put one in the bator as it should hatch saturday (was a couple days behind...) this is a pic of her first out my 6 year old named it "blackie" lol. this morning blackie had two little siblings hatch...
I think I will give it a shot next year. my coop floor is all wooden, not drafty so the sand would work ok if it's dry, and have heard good things. heck, worth a shot! I bet the chickens would love it....
@fisherlady how do you like the straight sand floor? have seen the chicken chick rave about it and am open to trying it, although we're so close to winter here I wonder if I should wait until spring now....
anyone else pros or cons?
