If they were only cool for 5 hours, I think you still have a very good chance of them hatching.
Did you try to put those 5 back under the broody after she kicked them out? My latest broody was really bad about scooping eggs back under her. The other hens would scatter eggs around sometimes...

You probably have other hens laying under her. For some reason, an occupied nest is irresistible to the other girls. It always scares me that eggs will get broken, but I've been lucky so far.
May I suggest marking the original eggs with a sharpie? Then you can remove the new eggs each...
I don't think she'll accept the 2 week old chicks either. I guess I would take the chicks as they hatch and raise them then hope she stays sitting on the other eggs to hatch them. Your only other choice would be to put the unhatched eggs in an incubator and try to hatch them- in which case...

I had a sex link sit on eggs for 10 days that turned out to be duds. I got her new eggs and she sat another 23 days for them all to hatch (she sat for 2 extra days on 2 eggs that never hatched until I took them away). I think your hen would be just fine sitting an extra week.
Good luck!

None of the 5 have an air sac? Have you found the page with the candling pictures? If they didn't look like those pictures, I'd be concerned too.
I'm so sorry your pet sitter left you such a mess.
The broody has chicks too? Where did they come from? Or were they just a mess in...
Rachel'sFlock :
Trying an experiment, now, in the "off broody" season.
I have a small area under the nesting boxes wired off from the rest of the coop. I kept the babies in there until they were large enough to mingle with the year-olds. The door is rolled up so it is open at the moment.
No one...
It looks like I get to participate here again. I just had another RSL go broody (and here I thought they were bred not to). Lacey started clucking like a mother hen three days ago. It was too funny watch her dig up a grub then cluck for her non-existent chicks to come get some.
I'm getting her...
Thanks for the tip on the Oxine, Miss Lydia. I remember a lady at TSC bringing it up a few months ago and I'll for-sure order some. I got the 2nd floor of the kids' playground/fort converted into a coop this afternoon and the new pullets will be moving into there for quarantine.
Mama Red seems...

So glad to hear everything worked out. I know mama has her feathers full of chicks and sounds like she is up to the task. We all learn from our mistakes so next time you'll be ready. I have 3 hens that are broody right now and they are in the same next box. To my surprise there was an...
I'm concerned they won't be able to make the ramp either. I just opened up the egg that had pipped because it didn't move at all when I touched its beak. The poor thing was fully formed and dead and a doornail. I candled the last egg she has and don't think I see any movement. I do see a large...
My broody's nest is about 10" off the ground. I put a piece of 2x6 at the edge to provide a little barricade and added a little ramp. There are 2 eggs left to go, one with a pip and one with nothing going on that I can see. You think I should move them all to the ground once the last 2 hatch or...

Thanks I'm glad you liked it I worked hard to make it
I was intrigued and had to look too. Nice job!
