A fly layed eggs on the pipped chick. No way I could have removed them. Would have been crawling with maggots. Trying to save the remaining 4 eggs. This was a mixed hatch. The "incubator" is roughly 102 and eggs are up to 98 now. Will keep an eye on it. Could still be a week more. $35 incubator...

The egg that was pipped is cold and stopped breathing. Momma didn't go back. I'll do what I can for the other eggs.

Thanks. I am still working on it. I've seen people put hardware cloth over water to maintain moisture. Quickest thing I can come up with. Might have to amazon an incubator. I will cover so the eggs aren't directly baked by lamp.

Ok wisdom givers... . Momma has 5 chicks. She has gotten off the nest to teach the chicks to scratch and drink. It's been at least an hour off the nest. Is she done sitting? Problem is 1 is half pipped. I see a little beak breathing and 4 eggs unhatched. I do not have an incubator. Should I...

Thanks for all the wisdom. I have had difficulty adding chicks or chickens to this flock. The gold comets are a bit aggressive. I am hoping the broody hen can do better than me and the integration will go better.

So I am looking at roughly Tuesday/Wednesday for some chicks to hatch. I have a separate elevated coop the hens only use to lay eggs. Thats where momma hen is brooding. Should the chicks be ok in here? I have difficulty integrating chickens in with this group and the chicks are part experiment...

These darn birds just dont give u a break do they? Looks like I'll have to make that roll away nest box a bit sooner. She has 7 eggs to hatch. 10 or so in there last time I checked. When she hatches the 7 I am removing the others. Hopefully she will not try for another nest soon.

So I've read hens go broody as hormones are triggered by warm summer temperature. Is there a typical duration they are broody? I can deal with "summer" as long as she wont do this several times a year.

We are almost 2 weeks of broody. Air shack look ok? Sharp air sack in 1 but other is different?

So an unforeseen side effect of a hen going broody. I was getting 8 eggs a day. Minus 1 hen I should be getting 7 eggs a day. But sometimes as little as 4. Maybe they found a good hiding place? I check whenever possible and they are not under broody hen. Just seems like hormones in the air...

My broody returned to the wrong nest. I moved her and cleared the other nest and she returned to the correct one. A few hours alone should the eggs be ok?
